Has anyone compared the MSB DAC's
Trelja: This doesn't quite relate to your question (sorry), but just thought I'd mention, I got the MSB Link DAC III (not full nelson) with Monolithic power supply last week, and have been burning it in. I have noticed zero difference compared to ...
Reference CD & DVD Player ?
Justy, I'd have to second Ronc. I just got the Pioneer DV-09, and have been very impressed with DVD, and satisfied with the CD playback. I picked it up used on Audiogon for $900 including shipping. To get the most out of my CDs, I'm now contemplat...
How do Swans Divas Speakers Sound?
Chatbc, I share your curiosity. When I saw them, I was surprised by their low price considering their great looks and apparent good build quality. I haven't heard them though (sorry I can't be of help :-)
Best DVD player in $500-$1000 Range
If you are looking at used components, you might want to consider the Pioneer DV-09. I just bougth one on audiogon for $900. My research suggested this was the best player at the pricepoint (better than the Sony 7700). Good luck.
Most Honest Audio Magazine?
Hi-Fi Choice is, in my opinion, a brutally honest mag!! Even their latest front cover delivers healthy doses of criticism for on Musical Fidelity and Arcam gear - this from a British mag! On the other hand, they have been comfortable issuing recom...
Yet another Hum problem
I had a similar problem, and the culprit turned out to be my crappy TV. The TV was of course connected to the VCR, which in turn was connected to my preamp. The problem occured after shipping my stuff to a new address. Once I unplugged the visual ...
POWER: conditioners vs filters vs cords
The PS Audio Powerplant 300 is worth considering. You could pick up a B Stock from the manufacturer for $750. I picked one up and have found dramatic improvements. Read the reviews on audioreview.com. Although expensive, consider the fact that it ...
Which track do you demo to your friends?
Thanks for the responses here - more music for me to check out :-) I do agree that letting them choose makes a lot of sense - however, sometetimes they chose poorly recorded CDs. For example, the Moby Play CD (great stuff) has so much background n...
integrated amps
Try YBA Integre - very accomplished piece at a fair price (true entry into serious high end). Also, I'd second Sdcampbell's recommendation of the Bryston BP60 - a fine component, from a company that stands behind its products better than just abou...
Do I really need to Bi-Wire?
Trelja, yes, I am actually very happy with the sound of my system - I've just caught the audio 'bug' and have been eager to try out anything that will push it into an even higher gear :-) Areas that may be lacking could be soundstage and warmth - ...
Who R U?
Ok, my turn I guess (great thread by the way!) I'm 28 years old, originally from Dublin, Ireland. I emigrated to the States - New York to be exact when I was 22, after graduating from Trinity College, Dublin, in business and economics. I lived in ...
Do I really need to Bi-Wire?
Trelja, thanks for the advice. Just to clarify, Yes, each of the 260 copper strands on the cable are individually insulated (quite amazing really!). Would this info change your advice? Thanks.
Do I really need to Bi-Wire?
Thanks guys for the great advice. I think I'll take the plunge and get a second stereo pair for the 805s - I'll probably get the same pair as before just to be on the safe side.
Best Speakers for small room under $3.5k
Trelja, thanks for the good advice on switching the KCAG interconnect to the DAC/Preamp link. The cable is actually a balanced (xls) one, so I can't do it. I'll have to get a new RCA. Cheers.
Best Speakers for small room under $3.5k
Thanks everyone for more great advice. Yes, I think I'll upgrade my interconnect cable for starters, and maybe get a couple of new powercords for the amps. I already have a PS Audio 300, so am hopeful that my power is pretty clean. I will think ab...
