Headphone Amp. for Sennheiser HD 580 headphones...
I use the my Sennheiser 600s with Musical Fidelity xCansV2 (about $280 for the amp from audioadvisor.com). I also switched the 2 6922 Sovtek tubes in the amp for upgraded Valvos, with a bit of an improvement. If your budget is that big for the hea...
best digital cable
I've owned Harmonic Technology Platinum, DH Labs Silver Sonic and Nordost Silver Shadow. I'm a cable convert when it comes to analog cables, but I found negligible difference between the digital cables I tried - my recommendation would be to get j...
What equipment do you really like?
Amps: Lamm ML2 (my dream amps), VTL Wotan (soo many tubes!)Preamps: CJ ART, Thor (could a preamp look cooler than thor?)Speakers: Verity Lohengrin (scary looking monsters)Cables: Nordost Vahlalla, FIM GoldCD players: Linn Sondek (the best?), Audio...
Looking for a tube preamp that is 1700 or less.
BAT Vk3i would be well within your budget and would definitely give you the classic tube sound. You may be able to pick up a VK5i for just over $1,700. Both are fully balanced, I believe. If you can stretch your budget a little, the Sonic Frontier...
Best used amp for B&W Naut. 805
Ray:I had a pair of B&W Nautilus 805. A few recommendations I can think of would be top of the line amps from Creek and Musical Fidelity (can't remember the model numbers), but they would be about $1,500 new, and about $1,100 used. These Briti...
Audio Physic's "New" Virgo---Better?? How So??
I notice a few folks mentioned the use of a sub with the Virgos. I used a REL Strata II with mine and was very disappointed - it just added some bloom to the bottom end. I guess a more expensive REL may work better, but I found the Virgos offered ...
best matching gears with Virgos, help please.
I'm using my Virgos with SF Line 3 preamp and Blue Circle BC2 amps, SPM ICs and FIM Gold SC. I'm very happy with the sound, but I find merit in Gregm's argument - a litte more power than the 75WPC of my Blue Circles may go a long way to giving mor...
The big audiophile dilem
For transparency, detail and no boom, you'll get great results with Nordost SPM. There may be better at the price, but SPM hits the spot for sure.
Component with most effect on soundstage/imaging?
Choice of preamp for me seems to have the biggest impact on soundstage for me. Also, I note that a few folks have discounted the effects of interconnects on soundstage - I'd have to disagree. I had KCAG, HT Truthlink, Cardas Golden Cross and HGA S...
Help with Upgrade
I'd also consider upgrading your Preamp. You could sell your Line 1 for maybe just over $1K and get a Line 3 for about $2.1k. The improvement will not be subtle. Just another idea, but I also agree with some comments above on your front end being ...
Sonus Faber Extrema manuals.
I have two sources to recommend on speaker placement. Check out the speaker placement link on Audio Physic's website:http://www.immediasound.com/AudioPhysic.htmlAlso, the cardas site has some interesting stuff too:http://www.cardas.com/insights/in...
Cheap upgrade path?
I had the MSB Link III with upsampling. I also found it harsh and edgy. I haven't heard the Muse Model 2, but had their model 5 transport - it was an outstanding product. If you can stretch your budget, it's possible that the best DAC out there un...
Best speaker cable for Audio Physic's Virgo
I was using Stealth cables with my Virgos (Stealth PC Premier sometimes, and other times I switched in Stealth Triple Ribbon). I was happy enough with the sound. I then got FIM Gold speaker cable. The sound is transformed - unambiguously superior ...
The most important piece in a stereo system???
Preamp! Don't skimp on it. I wouldn't have thought it before I got into this hobby, but my preamp upgrades have offered the most obvious improvements in sound (Arcam Alpha to Bryston BP20 to Sonic Frontiers Line 3). To answer those who voted for f...
What Headphones? Looking to upgrade..........
I can't say I've demoed loads of headphones, but Im super happy with my Sennheiser 600, and from what I've heard, they are really hard to beat at the price. I use them with Musical Fidelity xCans V2 - a nice upgrade. Also, it looks like someone is...
