Telling musicians to evaluate and choose their instruments in a “scientific” way?
Excellent analogy. Further, Gibson players don't denigrate Fender players for having inferior equipment. Effects pedal makers aren't accused of using snake oil because someone says they can't hear the effect, etc.
I agree with Keef
As usual in the media, the actual story gets buried and ignored. The band (Jagger) had removed it from the setlists and an interviewer noticed it was missing and asked why. Next thing you know, we have these 'the sky is falling' stories all becaus...
On ''what there is''
So now we know it is possible to claim fluency in 4 languages yet completely misunderstand and denigrate a pertinent comment made in English... wtf has this got to do with music and its associated sound reproduction equipment?
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl.
vanson122 posts09-28-2021 12:07amDoes anyone remember when you could record music on your VHS recorders? Yes, the originals of many cassette bootleg recordings were stored by being dubbed to VHS tape. Given the long term degradation of many casset...
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl.
Given how many of the excellent bootleg live recordings from the 1970s were made on cassette decks (Mike Millard, Dan Lampinski, JEMS, etc etc) clearly quality can be had (most of these gentlemen went to Nakamichi decks with good quality microphon...
If there’s an audiophile exit ramp, this ain’t it…
I’ve been able to control equipment purchases over the years (raising a family will help tremendously with that mind set because no matter how much $$ you make, it’s never enough), but have a real problem controlling media purchases, especially SA...
System building; a meditation
Back in the day, just out of college, we all had stereos but a rare few had well constructed systems. Hearing those, along with visits to area stereo stores (not big boxes), gave clues as to what components (and brands) to seek, within budget of c...

USPS records delivery delays
Everything coming USPS 1st class or otherwise takes longer the past few months. Even Amazon packages coming 90 miles from Richmond take a week and if you track the packages, they go on some bizarre tour of post offices they shouldn't be anywhere n...
Auditioning headphones (ethically)?
Like russ69, I've worked my way up Grado's line of headphones from the entry level SR-60s up to the SR-325e's and they do improve as you climb the food chain. Not everybody likes open backed headphones but they allow me to hear ringing phones, doo...
Listening Skills Part Duex: What are you listening for?
What are we seeking? The short answer is musical truth. Do the instruments sound like they are supposed to? If classical, do the string quartets or orchestras or solo pianos sound like what you've heard live? If acoustic jazz, again, do the double ...
Bad recordings and high end audio
There are needledrops of the 1st vinyl pressings of the first 5 Led Zeppelin albums available on the internet as downloadable files if you poke around, or as actual redbook cds from several purveyors of "import" products from Japan. Both sound lig...
Another great gone, this time its Charlie Watts
Jagger has said in the past that without Charlie, the band would cease to exist. As such, this tour, with Steve Jordan taking Watts' place, may indeed be the last one.
When are people going to wake up and realize listening is a skill?
1-The greatest F1 driver of all time has become so primarily by braking as late into corners as his skill and physics allow, which give him a real advantage over his competition as few can do the same.2-There are musicians (and even "regular" folk...
Audio deals you bought that seem impossible for the price?
In 1983 I bought a Hafler DH-220 amplifier brand new for $235. Other than one solder joint needing to be redone (it was the kit version) a few years later, it remains in my system today. It has performed well with all 3 different sets of speakers ...
