Looking for New Speakers - Suggestions Why don't you go to CES and see/hear what's out there? Since you are in the industry, you can easily get in and it's lots of fun drooling. You might consider MBLs for loud volume.
Avalon Eidolen VS Porac D80 or B&W 802D The Avalons would be my choice. They require adequate power and placement. They look beautiful and sound fabulous with most music when properly placed.Get the Avalons and look no more!
slightly neurotic question from a tube newbie Tube amps have lots of current flowing. My advise is to NOT turn it on. Take it to a tech and have it checked out. Most likely, he/she will do exactly what Mingles (above) advised. But, loose sockets and poking around can be dangerous.

CDs with heavy, fast bass and/or long drum solos 1984(?) I sat in front of Tony Williams (Marsellis Bros, Ron Carter, Herbie H.)Tony Williams could play drums and sound like an orchestra. Incredible.
CDs with heavy, fast bass and/or long drum solos The VERY BEST CD recording of drums and bass that I have heard is almost impossible to find. But it is incredibly dynamic. The tune is called "Boxenkiller". I am told it was on a Focal Lab sampler CD.Good luck finding it.
Double Albums/CDs, curse or blessing? Layla (to me) is an excellent double LP and justified.First, the band, Dominos, was so dysfunctional it could only hold together for a short period. One year?Secondly, the passion and intensity of the music makes this one of the all time "best of ...
