"What's Your Best Price?"
It really tics me off when people do that. People who ask this question lose all credibility in my eyes. It's asking the seller to negotiate against themselves. If someone wants to negotiate the price they should make an offer to purchase. As a se...
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
Hdm, thanks for the link to the articles. Apparently many vinyl mastering engineers are using add-on digital devices in order to protect their lathes from overloads which would burn out the cutting heads. It's a poor solution, but may be necessary...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story?
Nsgarch, go to this link and scroll down to the section about disc cutting. It will explain adjacent groove deformation due to a number issues involved in the cutting process.
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
Zaikesman, go to this link and scroll down to the section about disc cutting. It's a reprint of an article by Robert Runstein. It will tell you everything you never even imagined goes into cutting a record. It's not that you need a delay, but you ...
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
The Neumann cutting lathes do not digitize the signal going to the record. Later production Neumann units used extensive microprocessors to control the cutting process, but the music signal sent to the disc was all analog.
Muralmans' amps reviewed Ultra Audio.
Somewhat cryptic, but I assume there is a review of the amp on the Ultra Audio website that mirrors Muralman's enthusiasm for the product. Do I get a prize?
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story?
If there were pre-echo from print through of a mag tape, this could easily be edited out when the CD data file was created.Eldartford, how would one go about eliminating pre-echo/print thru not just before the first notes, but the entire album dur...
Advantages of Ruby 3H vs Ruby 3?
It will have no effect on surface noise, clicks and pops. The differences between the two cartridges are very small if each is matched to an appropriate phono stage.
Help with vinyl frustration?
Does this only happen on used vinyl? If so it's a symptom of a worn/mistracked record. Nothing you can really do about it.
A mistake spending too much on amplification?
Chiho, you're over analyzing the situation. Be happy that your system sounds good.Ask an average non-audiophile music lover how much better a $100k+ audiophile reference mega-system sounds than the best system you can buy at Best Buy/Circuit City/...
New Vinyl Defects
Setup definitely lessens surface noise issues with vinyl, but other than an out of production Nakamichi I've never heard of a turntable or setup procedure that corrects for off center pressings.
Does anyone use a Bel Canto Pre2 P ?
It's a very nice sounding preamp with some very useful features. It's clean/lean/clear sounding as opposed to warm/harmonically rich.
I want to re-introduce this subject.
If it took a week to dial in the volume it's probably because the CD disc wasn't broken in (or possibly it wasn't broken-in properly). Search the archives and you'll find volumes of info on the subject.
brass outlet covers...anyone try them? Sound good
So the outlet cover acts as a drumhead transmitting vibration to the electrical current? Regardless whether one can hear the differences between types of covers, that "explanation" makes absolutely no sense.Freemand, make a video tape of you descr...
If boulder is tops what is second tier?
Since you have recently made other changes to your system and you also state that your think your current phono preamp is quite good, I would recommend you leave things alone for awhile. Give yourself a chance to really get to know the strenghts a...
