Why HDCD did not become a dominant format? There are more HDCD recordings available than SACD and DVD-A combined. It was widely used, but lost momentum when Pacific Micro was bought by Microsoft. Many, if not most, HDCD encoded recordings are not even marked as such.

Artists 'SELLING OUT' - can we discuss? Timrhu, I am part of that generation. But one thing to remember is that the Summer Of Love was also the same summer that Detroit and Newark burned. You have to remember to always look at the past from both sides. Some of the ideals from that era a...
Artists 'SELLING OUT' - can we discuss? What is it about musicians (and by implication other artist) that makes so many people begrudge them the right to make an honest dollar? Being a musician is a job! It's a way to put food on the family table. It's also a very hard and extremely com...
Pet Sounds:why CD mono version is so noisy? I have the mono vinyl version of "Pet Sounds" and there is tape hiss, but I wouldn't call it noisy. Production techniques from the 60s would make tape hiss hard to avoid if you were doing numerous overdubs and mix downs. They only had an 8 track r...
Artists 'SELLING OUT' - can we discuss? It's not a big deal, I mean popular music has always been about commerce. It's no different than seeing your favorite actor acting in a commercial. If it bothers you, go listen to The Who's "Sell Out".

3 way vs. 2 way It really doesn't make too much difference which you design you pick. Both have their pluses and minuses. It's far more important that you like the way a speaker sounds with your equipment than focusing in on any specific design element. People wh...

Car drivers are a major road hazard, but they can be dealt with by sober experienced riders. It's easy to ride a motorcycle, but it takes skill to deal with ...
A simple request---Please pack audio gear well. My earlier question about who paid for the shipping costs goes to the point of "you get what you pay for". If how the item is packed is important to you, and I can't imagine why it wouldn't, then you should be very precise in your purchase offer t...
what's 'Active preamp' vs 'Passive preamp'? Active preamps have the ability to add gain (amplify) to the incoming signal. The vast majority of preamps are active. The tip off is whether it has a power cord.
A simple request---Please pack audio gear well. Who paid for the shipping? If the buyer agrees to pay the shipping costs they are in a much better position to specify how the equipment should be packed and sent. If you want it double boxed and no-peanuts, then make it part of the deal.
Downloads that aren't ripped from cd's There is a large loss in fidelity when converting from analog tape or high rez digital down to 16/44. This degradation in sound quality has a larger effect than how the music is ripped. Ideally you should stay hi rez throughout.
