what speakers demand high end electronics
Is Audiokinensis' post difficult to understand? Assuming the amplifier was designed to maintain fidelity to the source, then when mated to an appropriate speaker load most amplifiers will sound alike. Even rabid subjectivist audio critics have mad...
Power cord for low-watt tube amp?
Mechans, some people make reasoned arguments and allow for differing opinions, while others spout dogma based upon absolute "truths". I only wonder about the systems of the latter people. My own observation is that power cords are very component se...
Good quality RCA TT switch?
Niles makes what you are looking for.
lowering gain in a tubed pre-amp
Can't what you want be done with the modulometers?
Power cord for low-watt tube amp?
by those whose systems are not resolving enough to show the audible differences in cableHave you determined that these people even have systems? I don't see any evidence that they do.
conundrum
You haven't told us anything about your amplification. I think the 20.1s are a wonderful speaker, but they are very demanding of amplification. Ideally they should be bi-amped. Consider going with 3.7s, upgrading your amps and going on vacation to...
Next upgrade: cables. But which ones first?
I'm no expert on power cords, but I have recently come to the conclusion that there are better than entry level power cords. DIY is an excellent path for pursuing value in better quality power cords. On a dollar per dollar basis the component qual...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it?
A question and a follow up -- did audiophiles talk about "warmth" prior to the introduction of consumer digital audio? And if they did, does "warmth" mean the same thing in each time period?
Can the Harbeth 40.1's boggie ?????
I see that they are now listed for sale. What finally made you give up on the Harbeths?
Next upgrade: cables. But which ones first?
DIY represents a very good value for power cords. You can customize them to your needs and they are very easy to construct. Dollars spent equate to 3x to 5x equivalent retail value. The only downside is unproven resale value. If you go the DIY rou...
Replacements for Dynaudio Floorstanders
You're getting a lot of bad advice. It's well meaning, but it's bad. Ask all those people who are bashing the Krell whether they have actually heard that model? If you still have the iMac, download Channel D's Pure Music, the trail version is free,...
Replacements for Dynaudio Floorstanders
You haven't given any information about your room setup. Warmth can be strongly influenced by speaker/listener distance to walls, speaker toe-in and the amount of "soft" furnishings in the room. Also, don't know about your cables or electric filte...
Is AES/EBU the same as XLR?
An AES/EBU cable is spec'd at 110 ohms, a regular cable with XLR ends may or may not have that spec. You can still use any XLR cable, but it will not provide an optimal transfer of digital data.
Black-Eyed-Peas, the future of modern music?
Whitney lip synched, but it was still the best anthem performance of all time.It may have been a vocoder effect, not autotune. It could have been a vocoder and autotune. It's hard to say.
How can anyone afford this ?
I believe there is research showing that Americans don't compare themselves to people they are doing better than economically, but instead to those who are doing better than them. Hence, someone making $350,000 doesn't consider himself wealthy eve...
