Break In Failed
How can anyone optimize loudspeaker performance within 20 minutes?  Figuring out preferences for room placement, toe-in and tilt takes a little bit of time.  The drivers (and surrounds) need time to loosening up and the crossover components also n...
Hi-Fi and the Folly of Perfection
There can be a certain melancholy when you get what you always wanted.  To quote Don Draper -- happiness is that moment before you want more happiness.  Cue up Frank singing "It Was A Very Good Year".
So, I listened to a $1Million Dollar System
@ozzy I'm a little surprised that you think a million dollar system should be significantly better than a $100k system.  I suspect that the higher priced system would play louder (maybe even softer), have deeper bass and possibly have some refinem...
Jazz for aficionados
David Sanborn played in Mr. Wonder's band in 1971/72.  He has very nice things to say about that time.
Am I Getting Soft Here?
But what about the not subtle, night and day, gobsmacked and profound differences a better power cord will make?

Instrumentalists you can recognize after 6 bars..?
6 bars is a fairly long space in music.  If it's a solo, who can't you recognize in 6 bars?
Speaker Suggestions $30K Sasha DAW competitor?
Good suggestions about room acoustics, but I suggest if the Wilsons only sound screechy on some songs, then it's probably the recording that is screechy.  Try the specific recordings on other systems and see how they sound.
Do YOU have a flat frequency response in your room?
Flat frequency response at the listening position is not desirable.  What most people want is a smooth frequency response curve with varying degrees of downward sloping as frequencies increase.  Room decay times are actually just as important as f...
What's It All About?
I was thinking about how designing a kitchen was similar to putting together a system.  It's an imperfect analogy, but some got it and others didn't.  Both can be done without too much effort, but a minority of people can become fixated on the det...
The Killer Has Died
Judge not lest you shall be judged.  I read that somewhere.
Talking Book
It's an outrageously good article!  I particularly like David Sanborn's comments about how the band worked and songs evolved.  I'm also glad the article gave credit to Robert Margouleff and Malcolm Cecil for their contributions.  The use of synthe...
So I was changing a lightbulb last night…
Don't touch the light fixture when you're playing music at full volume.
Do audiophiles creat the high prices we complain about.
No, audiophiles are not responsible for the cost no object products that have appeared within the last decade. A few years back I had a conversation with an audio dealer who stated that audiophiles were his worst customers.  Basically, they spend...
