Who has heard and can comment on any of these brands?? I've heard of but have never actually heard or demoed Stenheim speakers. The last time I was seriously shopping for a pair of towers for my two-channel system upgrade, I spent serious seat-time over several months with approximately 15 or 18 diffe...
What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral? @sfcfran, glad you enjoyed my two cents' worth! Actually, there are some speakers that will allow you to hear everything on a recording, good, bad & not so good, without being uber accurate or neutral. Of course, this depends upon everything e...
Floorstanding speaker advice needed for long room @side22olto: P.S. As for the sub issue, hang onto it and see what your ears think after you've brought your new babies home and have fully broken them in. Depending upon what kinds of music you enjoy and a host of other factors, you may find it ne...
Floorstanding speaker advice needed for long room @side22olto: there are many possibilities for you to consider depending, of course, upon your amplification source, budget, room accoustics, etc. Rear ported designs need not necessarily be dismissed out of hand, as one reader suggested. All depen...
What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral? Interesting! The first thing or component I immediately thought of when reading the headline of this post was Dynaudio speakers. Now, don't get me wrong here! These are damn fine speakers! They have always impressed the hell out of me in critical ...
Where did you buy your first audio gear? Summer of 1973: Tech Hi-Fi Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sansui 2000X + Phillips 212 TT + Studiocraft bookshelf speakers. Several months later, replaced the Studiocraft speakers with a pair of Ohm C. Still have the Sansui.
Does dose anyone see these speakers in real? They look like a fat man sitting on a toilet. Probably sound about the same. Anybody foolish enough to spend 5 mil on these probably has taste up their... well, you know.
Washington Post article on MoFi vs. Fremer vs. Esposito Just curious again! Even though I'm about to do this A/B comparison for myself, as soon as I get my butt in gear and run my new MoFi one-step through my ultrasonic cleaning system, I'm wondering if anyone else out there has compared the sound qua...
Washington Post article on MoFi vs. Fremer vs. Esposito Just curious! Old master tapes, especially of famous albums & artists, are usually kept in temperature and/or environmentally controlled vaults ... are they not? As such, doesn't that prevent or, at least, seriously mitigate aging & dete...
Michael Fremer leaves Analog Planet Don't cry too much for Mikey, Audiophiles! I wonder how much of this move was his decision, as opposed to Stereophile suggesting he take a hike. He and Stereophile took a lot of heat after that article he published about the Onzow Zero Dust Stylus...
Cable curmudgeon @exflute, the quickest way to start a fight in an empty audiophile bar is to start talking about cables, connectors, etc. I've auditioned equivalently priced equipment & systems hooked up with multi-thousand dollar speaker cables, uber expensi...
A first @rpeluso, let me guess! The two friends who came over and love listening to music through their phones & MP3 files are young folk, no? I had a very similar experience with my grandnephew who listens to everything through his phone & ear b...
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have? We can all argue or, rather, debate, 'till the cows come home, whether vinyl LPs, even new ones, benefit from cleaning, ultrasonic or otherwise. Be that as it may, I choose to put my faith & confidence in what the experts on this subject, incl...
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have? @ddonicht, lots of good guidance here from the vinyl community! There's lots to know about the proper care & feeding of LPs and vinyl playback, not the least of which is proper storage, good quality anti-static poly sleeves, etc. I hesitated ...
New Analog Technology??? Velly intaresting! My brother-in-law and fellow audiophile just clued me into this alleged new analog recording & reproduction process. There’s really not a lot of information to go on for this Pinnacle method. It sounds a little like Mobile ... |
