Preamp differential tube gain (12 db gain) - whats this mean?
12 dB is what my pre has for gain....its ultra quiet.  The preamp it replaced had 25 dB of gain....noisey and the volume was too sensitive.  9 o'clock on the volume and it would blow you out of the room....
Reference 3a NEW mm decapo
I wanted a pair too but the Nextel finish is a turn off....deal breaker.   Hard to find nice used in wood finish...

Tube Amp for Klipsch Forte IV's? Black Ice F-22 or Willsenton R8 with upgraded tubes?
I am running my Forte IV with Quicksilver mid monos.  Mike makes great stuff!!!   40 watts is more than plenty in my room ....  that said you should definitely check out the Quicksilver Integrated Amp.  It’s 20 watts of EL 84 goodness.  Quality is...
Anyone use a Manley Massive passive to EQ
I would definitely post this question in a pro audio forum .... Manley gear like that is probably used more in a studio than a home environment
Integrated vs. Separates on a Budget
Integrated here as well.   You can buy something really nice used for that budget
More expensive = better?
Yes QS is quite good, you have to spend a good amount more to better it.      i agree with Ozzy regarding whether something is worth the cash....  it is if you love it and use it often.   My CJ preamp was good , Zesto?   Incredible, worth every c...
More expensive = better?
I knew the Quicksilvers were good but when I put that Zesto in front of them I was blown away by how good they sound.  Just re-tubed with JJ EL34
More expensive = better?
High cost doesn’t always mean better.... take  pair of Quicksilver Mid Mono amps.  They were $1900 when new in ‘13 and haven’t gone up much since .  Will walk all over many amps that cost more.
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
Keep saving, get the best preamp you can reasonably afford and you will have no regrets. Of course everything counts but the preamp handles switching , and it drives your amp(s)... it’s importance is often overlooked....
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
People are saying a lot of good things about the Backert but still it’s $4500 so not cheap ...  Rogue is probably best bang for the buck and fits price wise.  Rogue consistently puts out good stuff.
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
Unfortunately I think there are a lot of systems out there where the preamp is the bottleneck....  that said there are great speakers that aren’t realizing their full potential, sold off for the latest and greatest.... it’s a vicious circle
Crosstalk
I think every preamp I've ever owned with a mechanical source selector did that,  regardless of cost.    Turn other sources off is the fix , don't worry about it
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
The Zesto was $7500 new,  it was praised as the best sounding pre under 10k by several magazines... a clean one is a steal for what they go for used , when they pop up.
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
There were some really nice preamps at $2999 recently, a used Zesto Leto 1.5...., a used Audio Valve Eclipse, Backert Rythm 1.1.   For a little more than$ 2500 used you can step into some serious tube preamps if you are patient.
