Durable record vacuum cleaner recommendation?
Thanks everybody. VPI gets a solid recommendation. I see one problem: when I take record out of ultrasonic, it is wet on both sides. The VPI has a platter that supports the entire record (12") not just the label. So the platter will get wet every ...
Source of Fremer's "1 arc second" claim?
@richardkrebs thanks for that explanation. So MF confuses the adjustment period unit with threshold of audibility. Would be funny if it weren't so sad. Thanks for the clarification re that source kernel. Interesting engineering issue going again ...
Source of Fremer's "1 arc second" claim?
@barts I did not catch the alternative for the initials. Too funny! That, however, was not my intention. @fatdaddy2 totally agree. Frequently a kernel of truth is augmented by acres of BS. Just was wondering what the source kernel might have been...
Using non-terminated speaker wire?
OP: you are absolutely right. Bare wire makes best connection by removing an unnecessary piece, aka connector. If you are not constantly changing speakers/amps, bare wire is the way to go. That's what I do. Just be sure to get all the litz threads...
New to Turntables
I would not overthink it too much, but rather jump in at a comfortable financial level. Then try to figure out whether this whole vinyl thing is agreeing with you, and learn what you like/dislike about that platform. Without a reference point, it ...
Source of Fremer's "1 arc second" claim?
@kijanki The whole "equal temperament" piano tuning is a whole other story, with splitting the comma. There is a nice book "How Equal Temperament Ruined Harmony", interesting read. For those of us who appreciate natural trumpet and other harmonics...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype
@facten Yes, sunk cost idea. But I will not look for anything else for a long time. I still want to compare it to the Topping D50 gen 1, and also the Dragonfly USB DACs. When I purchased first the red then black then cobalt versions, I heard slig...
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype
@facten  So out of curiosity why then do you have a $4K+ Holo May  DAC? I was curious to find out if "better" DACs sound that much better. Rather than walking incrementally through various iterations, I rather go in all the way. I went by the ...
What are your top 3 favorite turntable companies (manufacturer) and why?
Rega: no BS bare bones engineering & design. The extreme form follows function approach. I own a Naia. VPI: If you like the heavy approach. My previous one. Technics if you like the DJ approach.
Upscale Audio is up front with customers
@thecarpathian  It takes one to recognize one! I currently write the global monograph on the genus, should be out in 2027 through AOS.. See you Annapolis in a couple of weeks?
Upscale Audio is up front with customers
I've purchased several items from them. I have to say, though, getting them to take a VPI TT purchased from them in trade for a new Rega was anything but straight forward. First they flat out refused (!) then eventually I got them to take it.  Th...
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
@larsman +1 Vinyl treated well and kept clean should have few if any clicks and pops. I don't mind getting up every 20 minutes to cross the room - I need the exercise! I like vinyl, digital, whatever; first and foremost is the MUSIC.  I may ev...
Sound level listening
Around 70 dB at listening position.
Moving to separates
I went from a Rotel integrated (RA1572, I think) to separates (see virtual system). The main reason was more control, particularly with phonostage. However, the comparison is not fair, as I replaced a 2K integrated with 15-20K in separates. Do the...
Is the "improvement" real or imnagined?
Take the blanket on/off a few times and see whether the effect persists. Not perfect, but at least the "second is better" effect is removed. You could also leave the blanket on, come back the next day, listen with blanket on (test 1), then take it...
