HoloAudio Spring 3 Kitsune DAC NOS
@paqua123 You can download dsd music from sites like NativeDSD. One of their sample downloads costs little and will test your DAC and give you a feel for the sound. Yet it is hard to find DSD downloads of well-known artists. Why? Maybe because t...
Effects of concrete as base for subs, speakers and potentially equipment
The best idea is to stabilize the wooden floor from below, if you are able to do that, e g with a beam in the basement like I described above. If not possible, you can try weight springs etc, but it will all be placed on an unstable floor.
Nearfield listening - once more
@mahgister  Thanks for comments - I agre with much of what you say. You wrote: "Room acoustic cannot be replaced or being disposed of because we listen nearfield ..." Exactly! But you also write "the result will be a no existing soundstage or...
Nearfield listening - once more
@pwerahera thanks! Seems reasonable. Basically I think you are right. Yet these are not the only laws of physics. Bi- or omnidirectional speakers sound different and work differently from traditional front-firers. I would say that room treatment i...
Nearfield listening - once more
@hiphiphan  Height - is it always the case that ears are best served by height = the centre of the tweeter? I sometimes feel, somewhere between the tweeter and woofer (or bass port, in case of single driver speakers) is better.
Nearfield listening - once more
@hiphiphan Yes, sitting closer to the speakers, my face/head blocks more of the sound from the other speaker. Do you find that the best result is related to the toe-in of the speakers? @steve59 > 2 to 1. 2 ft apart for 1 foot back. Interest...
Nearfield listening - once more
Thank you all for very interesting and positive responses! I will consider a bit, and come back.
Nearfield listening - once more
I know that with a two (or more) way speaker you have to move the listener position so that the two drivers blend well. With my single driver speakers that problem is smaller. I can sit closer to the drivers and yet get quite full range and time-c...
Nearfield listening - once more
I also wonder, is there such a thing as a "nearfield speaker" or is this mostly words? All speakers are nearfield if you sit close enough. The ideal speaker should sound good from the near, the mid, and the far listening zone. But attempts to impr...
Playing DSD files
A new test. Beach boys: Holland - a classic from 1973. The qobuz streaming is clearer, and quite good. My vinyl rip from the original LP is more noisy. It is a quite even match, give and take. Karpe: Omar sherrif (2023). This is interesting sinc...
Effects of concrete as base for subs, speakers and potentially equipment
I added thick beam in my cellar, placed vertically from floor to roof, hammering it into place so it should take the weight off my record player and system. One of the best investments I ever made. I can jump up and down before my record player, n...
HoloAudio Spring 3 Kitsune DAC NOS
I record my vinyl to DSD. To my ears, playing pure / native DSD, with the DAC volume disabled, is clearly superior to PCM.
LP storage advice please?
Whatever the box or cube system, it is a good idea to shift the records a bit from time to time. They should be store vertically, not lean to the side, yet not so tight that they cling on to each other.
Playing DSD files
Foobar issue fixed, it now plays .dff as well as .dsf files correctly. Trivial reason: I was running v 1.6.4. I upgraded to the latest (v 2) and updated the DSD and SACD components also. The Topping E30ii dac needed a restart. Now, it displays the...
Playing DSD files
Testing .dsf file playback with Audirvana vs Foobar. I am not able to hear any clear difference. Also, no breaks/gaps. Testing Doors: LA woman, Analog production 2 x LP at 45 rpm. Sounds great. This has been some days work, but I have now recorded...
