Playing DSD files
@fuzztone - its good to keep some perspective on things. I could fill my suitcase with a hundred small Fiio X3ii digital players, to equal the 15 kg weight of the Revox A77! X3ii does play DSD native, and weighs 135 grams. However the DAC is not s...
Playing DSD files
This is weird. I had it - and lost it! I got Foobar to play my dsd files using milpai's advice. For a while I switched back and forth between Foobar and Audirvana, testing for sound differences. Since I know that such programs can be jealous of ea...
Playing DSD files
@milpai - thanks! It worked! I selected the Asio+DSD device and SACD output to DSD. And tried another .dff file, since foo had some kind of hangup with the test file. Now I’ve got Foobar sound. The DAC displays 5,6 DSD, and the volume level is fix...
Playing DSD files
Thanks! Before recording to DSD the last fifteen years, I recorded my LPs to analog tape, mainly with the Revox A77 from the late 60s to the 90s. A reliable serviceable machine. But it weighed a ton! I then switched to digital and the new sound te...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Steven Wilson: The Harmony Codex sounds good streaming in all formats I’ve heard so far. This is an artist AND an expert producer. It was bound to sound good. I bought the LP. Was it worth it? Yes. It sounds even better than the streaming version.
Playing DSD files
@fuzztone and @milpai - thanks. I already have a dac/streamer in my main system (Teac NT-505) which does the job fine - streaming PCM e g from Qobuz, AND playing my 5,6mhz DSD files. The question now is just playback of the DSD files, from my lap...
Review of TEAC NT-505
Yes, different levels, I know. The Eversolo dmp-a6 is more comparable to nt-505. A Norwegian audio forum has a detailed report on the Eversolo compared to the Topping e30ii. He found that the Eversolo sounded noticeably better, with a larger music...
Does an upgrade make sense?
With some rearrangement of furnishing etc in the room you may be able to create more of a long side and a short side. Place speakers so they fire along the long side of the room. Let the speakers breathe - have space on all sides, and work with ex...
Review of TEAC NT-505
Have anyone compared the NT-505 to a newer low price DAC like the Topping E30ii?
Radical toe in once more
Just to be sure I tested with my Hifi News test LP, side 1 track 2, voice in and out of phase. Test: passed. No problem. The in phase sound is clearly centered between the speakers, while the out of phase sound is not, but rather floating around. ...
Radical toe in once more
Newbee, thanks again, I get it now. What you say about recorded sound is mostly known to me, although it is nice to get it so well and briefly formulated. On one level I agree that in and out of phase recorded sound has nothing to do with speak...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
I tried my "DAAD test". I have DAAD acoustic devices, two columns ca 3 feet high, one side diffusion two sides absorption so you can turn/tune them to the room. I placed them with the absorption towards the speaker, on the line from the speakers t...
Radical toe in once more
@newbee wrote: "I see a lot of folks who think crossed axis’ compromise the sound stage."  Yes, I've recently read some of this myself.  "What I think they hear are 1st reflection points and think that is part of a normal sound stage. They think ...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
@mijostyn you got a point and I will investigate some more. Maybe I've been too lazy since my room is quite wide, and placing some mattress or similar on the sidewalls doesn't lead to big improvement. I should do the 'mirror trick' (its been years...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
@mijostyn " A dipole is special because it radiates in a figure 8 pattern. It radiates very little to the sides. A bipole is omnidirectional radiating in a circular pattern. The dipole limits early reflections in the room." I have bipole speakers...
