Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
CBS Hytron - Albert, I think you are right. I just listened, quite loud, to Chicago Transit Authority: Poem 58. Utterly amazing. Right there. The tube stays.
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Again, many thanks! I agree about testing, going slow, and taking time. I will compare the Sylvania, the Hytron and soon also a Telefunken 12au7.
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
For what its worth, here are some tricks I learned living with a Velodyne DD18:-do as much of the setup in the analog domain as possible. Move the sub, adjust position, height etc before doing anything digital / EQ. In my ears, the less EQ the bet...
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
My experience equals others in this thread. I would not say I have given up on "resolution", but for me also, "musicality" is even more central. Last year, I tested the Aesthetix Io phono stage direct and through preamps so much that I started to ...
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Thanks Atmasphere. With so may tubes in my system I should probably have gotten a tube tester long ago. I will check possibilities.
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
So what is the conclusion? The thread starter was warned against a sub due to "the lack of coherence that inheres in adding a subwoofer". I think this is system and room dependent. Bass has to be integrated anyway. There is no general rule that it ...
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Apropos tube rolling: in this case I got a preamp that according to the seller was bought new in 2011 or so, has been left on mostly, and has not had any tube change. So that is 3-4 years of running. Is "best practice" in this case, take out all t...

Hi Albert Porter - you wrote "the Einstein gets a massive upgrade when you remove the 12AU7 tubes and replace with 5814 CBS Hytron" - do you remember, what 12AU7? I got the Hytron today, and have tried a few hours. Promising. It turned out, there ...

Could be right Czarivey. Or the back bone, I am thinking, since I have a prolapsis now. Whatever the analogy, it is central. Listening now to the integrated Ming Da Mc-34a amp and Aurum Cantus speakers at my cottage. It can't compare to my main ri...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Hi all. Bo1972 - dynamics is no problem wherever the dd18 is placed. It is a very forceful sub. The trouble is integration, as I am sure everyone here is aware of. If you think the sub is too slow, do the obvious thing, move it up front, closer to...
Is it possible to have Good Imaging close to wall
I had some success with Daad3 bass traps. They dont catch much bass but help with lower mid and vocal - in my case - if placed three feet or so behind the main speakers.
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
I think Charles1dad put it right:"over time and continued listening it'sapparent that the sound is leaner and lacking the complete sonic picture" My experience too, even with the Aesthetix Io upgraded to Eclipse status. Very clear, but a bit washe...

Tubes and vibration - Atma-sphere MA-1
The frame I am experimenting with is easy for anyone to make, use a metal clothes hanger. I like cheap tweaks, sometimes they work. Not yet sure, in this case. Version 1 had the frame resting direct on the top of the tubes with blutac. After two d...
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Hi - thanks for informed responses!Audiolabyrinth: I ordered ultra low noise Telefunken NOS ax7 tubes from Brent Jessee. Smooth plate from the 60s I think. They were costly but elevated the Io to a new level. I can turn up the volume to four o'clo...
