Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Apropos tube rolling: in this case I got a preamp that according to the seller was bought new in 2011 or so, has been left on mostly, and has not had any tube change. So that is 3-4 years of running. Is "best practice" in this case, take out all t...
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Hi Albert Porter - you wrote "the Einstein gets a massive upgrade when you remove the 12AU7 tubes and replace with 5814 CBS Hytron" - do you remember, what 12AU7? I got the Hytron today, and have tried a few hours. Promising. It turned out, there ...
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
Could be right Czarivey. Or the back bone, I am thinking, since I have a prolapsis now. Whatever the analogy, it is central. Listening now to the integrated Ming Da Mc-34a amp and Aurum Cantus speakers at my cottage. It can't compare to my main ri...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Hi all. Bo1972 - dynamics is no problem wherever the dd18 is placed. It is a very forceful sub. The trouble is integration, as I am sure everyone here is aware of. If you think the sub is too slow, do the obvious thing, move it up front, closer to...
Is it possible to have Good Imaging close to wall
I had some success with Daad3 bass traps. They dont catch much bass but help with lower mid and vocal - in my case - if placed three feet or so behind the main speakers.
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
I think Charles1dad put it right:"over time and continued listening it'sapparent that the sound is leaner and lacking the complete sonic picture" My experience too, even with the Aesthetix Io upgraded to Eclipse status. Very clear, but a bit washe...

Tubes and vibration - Atma-sphere MA-1
The frame I am experimenting with is easy for anyone to make, use a metal clothes hanger. I like cheap tweaks, sometimes they work. Not yet sure, in this case. Version 1 had the frame resting direct on the top of the tubes with blutac. After two d...
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
Hi - thanks for informed responses!Audiolabyrinth: I ordered ultra low noise Telefunken NOS ax7 tubes from Brent Jessee. Smooth plate from the 60s I think. They were costly but elevated the Io to a new level. I can turn up the volume to four o'clo...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Bo1972: did you try positioning the subs further out from the wall, closer to the listener position, to get better timing? I have my Velodyne DD18 on a low trolley. When I want the best performance I wheel it out, one foot or so in front of the sp...
Tubes and vibration - Atma-sphere MA-1
Thanks Atmasphere. This fits with my experience. The sockets are loose for a reason ("let the tube run free"). My testing shows that this works well. What remains to be seen is if a little bit of top damping makes it work even better.
Is it possible to have Good Imaging close to wall
Mapman: I have heard Avantgarde two times at audio events, not in my room. The first was bad and not properly adjusted I think. The second was great, all my preconceptions about horns just fell flat. So I don't know, these may work even better in ...
Is it possible to have Good Imaging close to wall
Mapman - sounds like a good conclusion. I am not going to sell my Dream Makers anywhere soon. I have no commercial connections. I suggest you try to get the chance to listen. It is the best I have heard so far. I have not heard MBLs but I have hea...
Is it possible to have Good Imaging close to wall
Nvp: "minimise the first order reflections and create a symmetric listening environment." I agree. But James Romeyn, co-designer of new Audiokinesis speakers, has suggested one should try a bit of offset from full symmetry, like 1.5 inch (moving t...
Tubes and vibration - Atma-sphere MA-1
Thanks! I think things are OK with my amp (factory upgraded to 3.2 last year), sockets work like supposed, etc, although Deoxit or similar may help perhaps. I also use some tube dampers on the drivers. However I think the frame wire rectangle idea...
