Lyra Atlas experiences
I mailed SME, and got a clear answer: do not use the HFN test record with the SME V arm. Instead, start from the equivalent of the weight, and fine tune by ear, from there. OK! I am glad that my listening tests the last evenings led to the same co...
Lyra Atlas experiences
Listening tests make me think, better go back to the SME tuning, or a bit below . Testing, first, Lotta Lenya sings Kurt Weill (mono 1960ies heavy vinyl version), and next, Tangerine Dream: Alpha Centauri (1971). It has been argued that quadrophon...

Ninetynine, thanks, interesting photos, I never thought about placing the digital weight on the side. How do you measure? My test record is the Hifi news analogue test LP, Producer's cut (HFN 002).I will test more tonight, looking for good mono an...
Whats playing on your system today?
Floating points, Elaenia, on Luaka bop LB0085LP. Very good.
Single driver loudspeakers
I am using single-driver active speakers on my desktop (Sony SRS ZX-1) that sound good driven by my OTL headphone amp (Audiotailor Jade). No crossover, no output transformer = sonic benefit. I've used this (and other s-driver setups before) also t...
Lyra Atlas experiences
A comment on setup: I have assumed that the anti-skating on my SME V arm was correct, and have dialed it in approximately like the weight (1.72 g), or a bit less. I think I have been wrong. I tried various methods: look at the cantilever deflectio...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
+1 pryso - often the sound is better on the originals or early represses....
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
thanks whattsperchannel. I have a dedicated high duty circuit for my sterero which works well. I tried star grounding in my system, could not quite make it work however.
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
tayie - thank you for the link, I will investigate, but please respect, many here at audiogon are not engineers, myself included. So if you can say a bit more, fine. What are the main points of Hirsch concerning the current debate, in your view?
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi RaulBy coincidence I am now using a low cost Graham Slee Fanfare 3 phono stage, since my main unit (Aesthetix Io) is on repair. The load is set to 470 ohm, no adjustment possilbe, since according to the producer, this worked best with the lower...
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
Cables are about electricity. Thinking about my own experience over the years, the main jump forward was making a separate high grade audiophile circuit, ca ten years ago. I contracted an electrician and we did the job together. At first he protes...
Lyra Atlas experiences
Hi Sunnyboy1956 - thanks. For me, every step up the Lyra ladder has been worth it, although the cost level is now very high. I am mainly very satisfied with the Atlas, also compared to the Titan i that I used before. I have no reason to think it p...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000
Hi - an update from my side. No, I cannot record directly to my external hard disc. But it mostly plays OK, used as a file library.I have about 600GB of DSD files on my 2TB Seagate wireless plus external hard drive, cable-connected to the Tascam US...
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
If you dont know why, ask how...Geoff:"One assumes you must be one of them socialists. "Accusations aside, we have a problem of overpriced cables, AND real life differences. What about sticking with the empirical method, everyone who has long te...
Balanced or single ended phono cable to Aesthetix Io?
I am much - but not fully - in line with Atmasphere on this, since his experience agrees with mine. Balanced is usually better. I also agree with Williewonka, and nkj. I think the quality of the cable plays a role, though, even in balanced mode. B...
