Dumped the rack
Solid ground is best I guess. Bedrock. I remember my Thorens TT sounding very  good indeed in a basement on the concrete floor. Like my Bose 901s sounding much better by a brick wall compared to wood wall. Now i live in a wood house and have to ma...

I used a Krell FPB600 for 12 years with no trouble. Day to day: on standby. On ca an hour before serious listening. Thunder storms, or going away for a period: unplug the amp. Great amp btw!
Aesthetix system – with or without a line stage?
I know that my Aesthetix Io sounds best through an active preamp. No idea with the Romulus. Maybe Glenn at Aesthetix could give you some info.
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it
+1 Keep it simpleCould we agree on two rules? 1 Total cost of ownership = money plus waste of time (repairs etc). 2 Also, cost must be judged relative to benefits in the ownership period. So for example - you can invest in a safe brand to sell late...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Hi TimYes, getting some DBA woofers may be an idea, maybe just 2 of the 4, since I already have a bit of distributed woofer / bass extension, using a pair of Audiokinesis LCS speakers along with the Dream Maker front speakers. However I am note su...

gdnrbob - interesting. It would be nice to be able to compare the Treos and the Dream Makers. I can only speak from my own experience, trying some 8 ohm speakers (mainly, Abrahamsen floorstanders)  with Krell FPB600 and MA-1s. First I tried Dynaud...
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it
Snapsc - I agree, depreciation is an important factor, but not the only one. Cost factors, not just money but also time, must be seen with the benefits in view. If your listening enjoyment is poor, it is nice to be able to sell the well known bran...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Hi TimNice system - and interesting that we share some of the same experience, listening a bit more nearfield, for the best 3d immersive experience. Bass and time coherence - I am no expert, just reporting what I heard. I first tried down-firing s...

gdnrbob testing some speakers with the MA-1s when I got them back in 2011, I found that speaker ohm should be more than 8. 12 or 16 is fine, along with a "nice" amp loading and 90+ sensitivity. Yes, the amps will drive 8 or lower ohm speakers a...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Tim, how do you toe-in the Magnepans? Do the speaker axes cross in front of you, at your position, or behind you? I think this matters, also in terms of sub integration. To get my former system time-coherent I had to place the Velodyne DD18 a bit ...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Hi TimOptional - exactly. I have followed Romeyn’s advice in my own LCS setup, and 95 percent of it was extremely helpful and good. But at some point, it becomes a matter of individual room integration and also listener preference. I do use phase ...
How come Horn + woofer designs are not more popular?
I would guess that Dream Makers like other AK speakers sound best with beryllium tweeters, but I have not heard them. The PRVs lifted a veil compared to the Celestions, so thats why they stay put, but I may test with the Celestions, later. They ha...
How come Horn + woofer designs are not more popular?
Clio09 - the LCS effect speakers are a bit of plus and minus in my system, but tuned right (and turned quite low) they are mainly a plus. Helps fill the room, smoother bass, some more dimensionality. But I agree, the Dream Makers alone are very go...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Noble100 - re: debra / swarm system - phase changes. I have found reasons to not always follow Audiokinesis advice "mechanically" - it depends on your room and a bit on your listening tastes also. So I’ve now found that my main Dream Maker speaker...
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
Dear all, as stated in a post above, I’ve tried a lot of subs, and gradually gave up on it, preferring another system (main + effect speakers) instead. Why? I worked a lot with sub positioning. Getting the subs and the room to agree. The more that...
