Why are my woofers pumping? Thanks mijostyn. I like it with all kinds of music. The effect is that I enjoy listening more. I wonder if it actually sounds slightly better than my former Atlas did when new. Possibly the low output version (Atlas SL) is even better, but I can'...
Why are my woofers pumping? My former Atlas, made in 2013, was used successfully over a period of several years, before it broke down, after five years - the needle saying goodbye to the cantilever, for unknown reasons. No mishandling on my side. Although the leaning of the ...
Why are my woofers pumping? One more update for all my Audiogon friends. The newly replaced Lyra Atlas cartridge sails through my stress tests without problems. I play Pink Floyd: Meddle, and the woofers react a lot, yes, but they dont over-react. The silent woofer pumping i...
Atma-sphere Updates I want to add to the comments about Ralph and Atma-sphere. First, my MA-1 amps are a daily joy. There is indeed something magic to the sound, especially when the rest of the system is tuned to the amps. And the system tuned to the room. I cannot s...
Horn Speaker Recommendations They may not catch the eye but we listen to a pair of Audiokinesis Dream Makers in beautiful light birch so my wife forgives their big size. In a rather big room much like yours. No sub needed. Atma-sphere Ma-1 amps. Very good match. Speakers were...
Help? Problem With Holding The Groove On A Hot Pressing I have records that mistrack. The better the cart the smaller the problem. But even my Lyra Atlas mistracks now and then. I live with it. And I think the antiskating and other parameters should be adjusted to overall best sound, by ear - rather th...
Why are my woofers pumping? Hi mijostynToo light? I have not thought that adding mass / weight to the Sme V would help. Seems that the Atlas sounds better without it. The resonance is a bit high - 7 hz ish - using my hifi news test lp - but to get it down I would rather ha...
Does my setup need a phono stage? I tried a few 500 - 1000 dollar phono stages when my Aesthetix Io was away for longtime repair. Ended up with a used ASR mini basis mk 2 for ca 500. Nice and flexible, mostly "sins of omission" in terms of sound, compared to the others I tried.
Help selecting a new preamp I was lucky to find a used Einstein The tube mk2 for 4k. No looking back. May be hard to find though.
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it Mike-in-mcYes and maybe better sound would need less whisky - or you would enjoy a vintage more - ;Say no to vinyl and tubes - for me this doesnt work. I am not mainly investing in my gear to sell later. I am searching for the best possible liste...
Aesthetix system – with or without a line stage? Yes I expected that answer. Aesthetix have been precise and correct in my communication with them over the last 15 years. Maybe a signature or eclipse (if it exists) Calypso would float your boat. Even if Callisto is better. I upgraded the Io to p...
Dumped the rack Solid ground is best I guess. Bedrock. I remember my Thorens TT sounding very good indeed in a basement on the concrete floor. Like my Bose 901s sounding much better by a brick wall compared to wood wall. Now i live in a wood house and have to ma...
Surge protector I used a Krell FPB600 for 12 years with no trouble. Day to day: on standby. On ca an hour before serious listening. Thunder storms, or going away for a period: unplug the amp. Great amp btw!
Aesthetix system – with or without a line stage? I know that my Aesthetix Io sounds best through an active preamp. No idea with the Romulus. Maybe Glenn at Aesthetix could give you some info.
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it +1 Keep it simpleCould we agree on two rules? 1 Total cost of ownership = money plus waste of time (repairs etc). 2 Also, cost must be judged relative to benefits in the ownership period. So for example - you can invest in a safe brand to sell late... |
