Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it Regarding vinyl playback - besides record cleaning, stylus cleaning, arm and cartridge adjustment, correct anti-skating and so on: dont drop the stylus on the lip of the record, so it skips. This means wear and tear on the cartridge. The "lip" is ...
Horns: Why don't they image well? I have Audiokinesis Dream Makers and some months ago I changed the four compression drivers from Celestion CDX1-1445 to PRV Audio D290Py-B. This lifted a veil, and improved imaging too. Not beryllium standard (I guess) but very good for a reasonab...
Small hi-res player? A little update...from my sideBack in 2009 I wrote "We won’t get hi-res players unless we use pressure." Well we used pressure, in various forms - and these players are now available.I am using a Fiio X3 - to good benefit. It plays native DSD. It d...
Good carts with SME V I have mainly done like Chakster proposes. Cartridge first. Start from the source. Then, trickle down, to get the best from the new higher resolution source. Maybe get a better arm, table, phono stage. This strategy has worked well for me. Yet I h...
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it Wolf_garcia, I do think costs can be reduced - by investigating before you buy, by taking the right kind of care of the things you've bought, and so on. Trying to reduce the chance of failures / repairs. Beyond just turning the system off. With lo...
Switched from RCA to XLR Interconnects - WOW snackeypI - I experienced the same "wow" going from single ended to balanced cabling some years ago, with the Krell FP600 amp. It sounded much better. using balanced cable from the preamp. This has been my experience later also, so now, most of my...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000 I am doing a new work batch recording from vinyl. Using the DA3000 without any mods. Some notes:- the advice i’ve read is "dont push it", keep to defaults. That way, poor op-amps and similar will have the lowest detrimental effect. So I use the de...
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it An update:Two fans running, very low cost computer fans, adjusted for low noise, without problems - behind my most critical tube components. Regarding heat x time:I think soldering close to mechanical parts is especially error-prone. Like volume p...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000 Regarding upgrading the DA3000, especially the input / recording part, Chris as Busman Audio writes:"The mods bring the recorder into another realm of quality with a much more smooth response that is clean and clear but not harsh at all. I felt th...
Vinyl recordings - best methods @bondmanp - yes, different ways. What Ortofon and Denon do you use? I might have considered a better cartridge before doing a lot of vinyl recording. Stanton for back-queuing - can you explain? Thanks
Tidal and Squeezebox I use the Touch for internet streaming, e g Tidal, but their Masters sound notably better in my home office (using a Steinberg UR22 DAC with the Windows Tidal interface) than through the Touch in my main rig in the living room. Mostly due to the 2...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000 My mistake - the DA3000 does have a remote, it is just not very convenient when using the recorder as a player, selecting from a music library. You have to select files from the front panel. Get a better DAC? If I want to pass the signal "unharmed...
Audiophile recording and playback - Tascam DA-3000 tgraber2 - i dont want to sound like a "format fetishist" proclaiming the value of the recorder at its top capability - good sound depends on a lot more than the format, like your write. I have been wondering, should I use the DA3000 only as a re...
SME V tone arm advice Hanss T-30 (or T-60) + SME V is also a good combination. Very rigid arm + rock solid stable player. My SME V worked well on the VPI hw19 also, but the synnergy is better here.
3 best 10k speakers now imho What amp(s) are you using? Speaker sound is very much depends on the amp - speaker connection. Personally I would go for easy-driven speakers that you can use with tube amps. |
