Sealed MOFI's on eBay
Frankly, sealed albums, expecially single records, can be warped unless they were carefully stored (temperature) because the shrink wrap can really shrink after it heats up and then cools down again.Otherwise, a sealed record implies (but can't gu...
Good product for cleaning nickle plated chrome
Simichrome uses jeweler's rouge as the "abrasive" (which is why it's pink) It's also the only polish I know that won't turn aluminum black (which is why it's the favorite of bicyclists and motorcyclists.) Khun Rikon is a new one to me ;-)
Integrated tube amp with tuner?
The Cornwalls are so efficient (something like 98dB @ 1watt) so I think 30W are actually plenty of power especially in the small room I have them in.It's not about how loud, it's about how clean (control overcoming the inertia of a big heavy cone....
Integrated tube amp with tuner?
The 1500 has a tube amp and tuner and an ss pre. An excellent combo actually, but it only has 30W/ch. The 1700 has 40W/ch and although the amp is ss, it has the famous Mac autoformer output transformers, which makes it a very listenable ss amp wit...
Integrated tube amp with tuner?
McIntosh 1700 (ss amp/pre + tube tuner) a couple for sale here for under $400If you want all-tube, there's the Mac 1500 I believe.
Whatever happened to Straight Wire?
I'll se if I can point you to the proper info. Joe has been making essentially the same products for about 18 years now. Very old school ;-)
Whatever happened to Straight Wire?
Platinum is sometimes preferred because of it's high resistance (as is bronze) by certain cable designers such a Joe Magnan who bases his designs on high resistance ribbon cable. His white papers at: http://www.magnan.com
Whatever happened to Straight Wire?
I think their big push now is toward lower price point HT products.
PS Audio Premier
The PPP provides "up to" 1500W downhill with a tailwind, meaning at a wall supply of 125VAC (PS Audio doesn't really publish full specs.) When you have time, read this page:http://www.exactpower.com/products/ep15a/reservepower.htmlIn the meantime ...
PS Audio Premier
Or you could think about an Exactpower EP-15A. Higher capacity (1100-1300W continuous) than the PPP and no fans (because they don't need them ;-)http://www.exactpower.com/products/ep15a/index.html.
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
According to some, the VS series was a 'budget' version of the VT series. So if you're on a budget, why not give it a listen?
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
Mick, there are two, beautiful VT130SE's for sale here, both for $3700. I'd buy the one in Pasadena, because it will probably cost less to ship.If you want some other points of view ;-)) search VT130 on the amp and tube forums at Audio Asylum too.
ARC Reference 110 vs older ARC amps eg VT150
The specs are the same for either. The main difference is convenience (and, let's face it, cosmetic ;-) The SE versions (applies to the 130SE also) make bias-checking much easier (a good thing because you'll do it more often) and all cords and cab...
Anyone recommend a neutral tube amp?
I'm surprised no one mentioned Audio Research. Their claim to fame is 'neutrality'. And though some think them lean or dry, not compared to ss IMO. I have a Mac 275, like Tennis, driven by a ss Levinson 26s pre, and find that combo close to ideal ...
ZYX Universe, Dynavector XV-1s, vdH Colibri, ??
Halcro, what I was reading was Arthur's remarks as of 11/27/05 -- two years ago. At which time he'd only heard the Airy 2 for himself.
