Subwoofer connection
Cytocycle is right. Use an adaptor for the sub and the "real" balanced connection for the main.
ExactPower EP15A
As far as heat is concerned, you could stack a EP over an SP with no problem. The SP has no vents and doesn't even get warm. The EP is minimally warm.I don't know what the electronic interaction might be though. You should check with Brent Jackson...
Subwoofer connection
If your sub also has RCA inputs (you didn't say) I think you'd be better off just running a pair of single ended ICs from your RCA preamp out to the sub, and save the XLR connections for your power amp. That's what I do and it's just fine.
ExactPower EP15A
Pardales, please go back and read the first three posts on this thread -- should answer most of your questions. I (sort of) agree w/ Hassel. The only time you would do a balanced power unit first, would be if you had dedicated AC circuits and pret...
WAF Friendly Soundproofing ?
Peter, the units I've used are surface mount, and the seal slides up into the housing -- no need to router the door bottom -- but your version sounds like it would make a neater appearance.
ExactPower EP15A
Pardales, the EP-15A is a power regnerator (and an excellent one) The other two you mention are balanced power units. Exactpower also makes a balanced power unit, the SP-15A. I have both of the Exactpower units and find them exceptional, but I've ...
WAF Friendly Soundproofing ?
Get a Guillotine-type seal for the bottom of the door. Available at HD or ACE. They come housed in brass, alum. paint etc. They attach to the bottom edge of the door. When you close the door, a seal strip drops down to the floor to seal the gap. A...
Rubber woofer cone?
It should be repaired. The two main reasons are:1.) To protect the voice coil from dust, and particles getting into the magnetic gap, and2.) To maintain the mass and surface area of the woofer cone.If you want to do it yourself, take the woofer ou...
Audio Research PH3 service, upgrades
My advice would be to send it directly to ARC for service. They'll check the specs., make any cap and other upgrades (like new rectifier, etc), change out worn RCA connectors , and if you want them to do it, put in new tubes (or you can experiment...
Where to get Svetlana 300b's
Go to:http://www.conusaudio.com/They're in Canada. I buy all my Svetlanas there. Great prices for tubes as well as matching. Eugene (who is as Russian as the tubes!) is very nice to work with.
Loading my XYZ 3-S ??
Bryan, it's not wrong, but they're assuming you're going into a phono preamp meant for MC cartridges. And that you might want to adjust the output impedance of the transformer to fit a lower MC phono preamp input. This is not necessary when going ...
Loading my XYZ 3-S ??
If you are using a step-up transformer before the preamp, then the transformer INPUT impedance should be equal to or higher than the cartridge OUTPUT impedance (in your case 4 ohms.) However your preamp's PHONO SECTION INPUT IMPEDANCE should be eq...
Loading my XYZ 3-S ??
FWIW (I've gone into more detail as to 'why' elsewhere in these threads) I've found that the best baseline (starting point) for then establishing the optimum (best for your ears and your system) cartridge loading is 25 times the internal coil resi...
Has MartinLogan gone too far with powered woofers?
My guess is that the Summits you listened to had un-broken-in panels that weren't reaching down (in frequency) yet to mate well with the bass. When they do, it will be possible to turn the woofers down and still have the right amount of bass (comi...
