EMM Lab DCC2 & CDSD Better connection?
You can use IO gel with any ST cable. It is available from Aural Symphonics separately (from their cable) for I think $80. And you don't get much for that (not that you need much, but $80?!) Maybe there's another source? You can clean ST cable tips...

Hydra vs PS Audio vs Equitech
They are totally different devices. A regenerator (I recommend the Exactpower EP-15A) reconstitutes the wall AC to produce a perfect 60 cycle sine wave at a a constant 120 V. In addition, most also provide EMI, RFI and Digital noise filtering alon...

Dennis, I do use the IO gel. I put it on right after I determined which direction I liked the cable best, which is how Tommy Dzurak said to do it.But before I did any of that, I first cleaned the transceiver in the old Wadia DAC. (The transceiver ...
Use amp in balanced mode in unbalanced set-up
Your best bet would be to call Ayre next week. This is not something a casual reader here could respond to without guessing. Even seeing your system first hand, the answer might not be obvious, because this is the kind of thing that should be addr...
Hydra vs PS Audio vs Equitech
Are you asking about power conditioners/regenerators, or are you asking about balanced power units (like Equitech)?
Lived up to or beyond the hype for 2005.
Yes, used equipment absolutlely qualifies. I should have said so. Sorry. And I suppose, now is a good time to add my choices:Two items tie for first place. One analog, one digital. These two items qualify for my "beyond the hype" award:1.) Transfi...
EMM Lab DCC2 & CDSD Better connection?
Bernhard -- I had the Pro 2, Tara Labs Luminary, and XLO Type 7. All very good (I liked the Tara the best, the Pro 2 the least)Now, I finally bought a new Aural Symphonics V-2 (from an Agonner who had two!) It is absolutely amazing. The other "hig...
sub positioning..
Best (and simplest) technique I ever came across is: Put the sub at your listening position, then move around the room listening for the spot(s) where you get the cleanest bass. Then put the sub in that (or one of those) spot(s).
HIGH SPL or ARTERY PLAQUE CLEANER
The bass won't do it (remove the plaque) but the ultrasonics at 126db definitely will!
Wilson Spikes
Greg - I don't think he's joking! A set of three Goldmund cones (used) goes for never less than $250!
Review: Purist Audio Design Proteus Interconnect
I have never auditioned Dominus ICs in my system (which is all Venustas from cartridge and DAC to speakers) Except I do have both Dominus and Venustas PCs. And on my amp, at least, the Dominus is very audibly better than the Venustas. I couldn't f...
Recommend a Used Solid State Preamp for About $5k
Well Mitch, with the Pass(s) and the Kappas and the ARC preamp, I'd say you'll have a very synergistic system. What I meant with my comments about the SS preamp, was that your ARC preamp is already a pretty elevated piece of equipment, so if you w...
Recommend a Used Solid State Preamp for About $5k
Mitch, so you're replacing your Carver with the Pass(s)?Honestly? I'd keep the ARC -- you'll have a wonderful SS/tube sonic balance, and besides, you won't find a used SS equivalent of the Ref2 mk2 in that price range (e.g. a used Levinson 32 is $...
The last 5 ?????
I'm trying to figure out if (maybe in a different way) this has already been said, but all the other remarks notwithstanding, there is a qualitative issue that affects the (subjective) percentage gain one experiences from the addition of new hardw...
