Questions about using audiogon to sell 1st time
I had an unexpected surprise when I bought a piece of used stereo equipment with PayPal a few months ago: *after* I got through accepting all the conditions and was committed to the purchase, they added sales tax. I could see no way to go back and...
some help with speaker placement/purchase
@soix et al: I'm trying to ask a simple and direct question. Perhaps it's a question that needs more context but if so, I'd like to understand that, too. I'm here to learn. And I will assume that your comment "garbage in, garbage out" refers not t...
some help with speaker placement/purchase
Thank you. I've never heard of Dutch and Dutch. Interesting. I'll do some research!Let me use the picture in that link as an example as those speakers are backed up to a wall of glass. How compromised are more familiar speakers in that placement (...
Bryston 3BSST2 vs 3B3
Thanks. I've been a member of that forum for a while and I can post there. It's quite helpful. But it's also a much quieter forum than this and I sometimes prefer to post here.
confused and don't know what to do
I'll let others with far more knowledge respond but I'm curious if you've bought the speakers yet. Since you're starting from scratch, maybe it would make more sense to think holistically about your system rather than start with a pair of speakers...
Buying in Canada, bringing back to US
I think I looked through the same "phone book" of regulations online, the "harmonized tariff schedule." It's baroque, the whole thing. And what if she had said, "that will be $533"? It feels utterly random. I find it incredible that a simple quest...
Buying in Canada, bringing back to US
Thanks! I have read that anything under $200/person is duty free. Most of the information out there seems to be about alcohol/cigarettes/cars, and most of it seems directed at Canadians (I almost typed Canadiens) bring goods back to the US. My wor...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
I'm on it, prof! Thank you for the link, I am absolutely in the "speaker buying research phase"! And Devore is definitely on my to-hear list. It may already be too late to avoid the mania of which you speak...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
Thank you, Todd, and thank you for facilitating the connection. I actually don't live too far away from the dealer (a few hours, which isn't bad) so I'll go down there in the next few weeks. If I'm reading it right, you had the experience I'm hopi...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
I want to be careful: I'm new out here and I have owned gear made only by well-known companies (McIntosh, Magnepan, Bryston, etc) and sold by established dealers. This world of boutique equipment is new to me. In fairness to Joseph Audio and for t...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
Todd: good man--thank you very much. I'll try that email. Your experience is ideal to me. I am not going to spend $10k on a new pair of speakers; that's not principle, that's reality. I hope to have a chance to listen at the Montreal audio show, t...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
clearthink: it is a bit odd, and you'd think that the dealers wouldn't be too happy about it. Maybe it's part of their mystique? There is a thread, similar to this one, looking for dealers in the West, noting the oddness and difficulty of communic...
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
Well, it looks like the Music Store no longer carries the speakers ... so the search continues.
Joseph Audio dealer in the northeast?
Howard--I was responding to the first post when you responded. Greenfield would be MUCH better! Thank you!

Thank you for respoding, pkelley. I appreciate itStill: anything in NYC or Boston? Anything in Montreal? I can make my way to Philly but that's an 8 hour drive. Oh well! I've never seen the Liberty Bell.
