Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
I want a 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack but am afraid to make the leap.
UP-OCC solid core copper for speaker cable
Looks interesting. Single wire though. You'll need 2 wires per side.
My wife passed yesterday
Sorry to hear of your wife's passing. This is so sad. I can't imagine losing my sweet, darling, best friend even if she has confined my rig to the basement!I hope you find solace in the music.
Help choose phono stage
Not sure if this is ok with forum rules. I have a Croft Phono and line preamp on Audiogon. Have a look and see what you think.EDIT: Hmmm. I see you use a LOMC, no MC though... step up transformer?
UP-OCC solid core copper for speaker cable
The Audioquest Type 4 uses OFC not OCC copper.
UP-OCC solid core copper for speaker cable
Runnin, the point of my exercise was to try the conductors that the more expensive brands use. In this case 7N PC-OCC copper. The improvement was definite. I don't believe the previous cables had issues in that their performance had deteriorated.
Quad ESL 57 with subwoofer
Thanks Dynalead. So are you running them from the same amp in parallel with the ESLs? I was thinking of powered sub(s) using a high impedance input from the speaker terminals...
Plaster Walls
Yeah plaster should be fine. Plain sheetrock is the worst. I had to move back to the basement with stone walls because the modern sheetrock was thrumming. It you do ever decide to sheetrock, put it over the plaster.

Jelco Tonearn SA750D
I've the 12" 750L and it's very good. I don't think you'd be disappointed.
Help me buy a Garrard
No. Adding a non standard platter mat could change the sound more than what they do.
Help me buy a Garrard
See my 401. If I was doing it again, I would be tempted to get a Grail Audio refurb but like the others mentioned, there are alternatives. If you don't fancy working on the unit, it is the only way to go. There is a guy on ebay doing plinths for $...
Ortofon Red on Thorens TP16 tonearm
So it is true if you haven't upgraded the wiring? ;-)
Ortofon Red on Thorens TP16 tonearm
The Red should be fine. This arm isn't good enough to justify spending on the higher priced cartridges.
