Moderately priced audio I have a second rig with older Spendor speakers, a modest tube phono preamp, vintage tube power amps and a vintage idler with a used Decca cartridge. Excellent sounds for about $4k. My PC rig is streaming Tidal hifi with a T-amp and old Wharfdale ...
Puzzled about reasons why there seems to be no shortage of used planner speakers @firstnot That 5.1 Magnaplaner set up at AXPONA was awful.
Whizzer cone removal When I see supertweeters and whizzer lobotomies, I can only conclude that you were/are not satisfied with the Decware speakers. After reading the entire thread, what is your current status?
Radikal Linn LP12 or Palmer 2.5? And speaking of Garrards, and your large jazz collection, may I suggest an AudioGrail/Classic Turntable Company/Artisan Fidelity rebuilt 301/401? AG/CTC runs about $3200/$2200 without plinth. I can put you in touch with a plinth builder. The AF is...
Increasing gain for your vinyl front end when pre-amp doesn't quite have enough juice Listen to @almarg . Try a new preamp. You could also buy a second power amp and run them as bridge mode monos.
Turntable Mat question I'm taking some heat for my 10" vinyl record mat. It sounds better on most material than many other mats I've listened to and that's all that matters.
Turntable Recommendations or ... Save for longer and get a better table and arm than you've suggested.
Turntable Mat question I use a 10" EP and it beats everything I've tried on my slate- plinth Garrard 401.
Sweet Vinyl Sugarcube - I Want It!!! @bondmanp I listened to the SC1 at AXPONA and am impressed enough by the product to endorse it.
Channel frequency range not balanced No disrespect but I think you should call your dealer over to have a look and make sure all is okay.
Forever turntable under $2000 You could buy a refurbished Garrard 401 from AudioGrail for $2000. Add a $500 solid plinth and $1000 for a 12" Jelco 850 arm.
Channel frequency range not balanced So, you are saying that the fault is with the left speaker. As in the tweeter output? I thought you’d ascertained in the original post it was between the RCA and stylus. i.e. arm/cartridge. And if the cartridge is playing better now, what did you ...
Pre-Preamp? Elizabeth has a point. I was thinking of the lesser SP9. Tube rolling your SP11 and upgrading the caps would give a new lease of life to your ARC amp.
Pre-Preamp? What’s your budget? You need a phono preamp for MC. The general consensus is that the Herron VTPH-2A is top of the game at the lower end of the higher end pricing. Next down is the Manley Chinook.
Update on Paul Laudati of Clear Day Cable Heartbreaking. I heard he was unwell but never imagined it was this serious. We spoke on a number of occasions and I actually sent a pair of cables back which didn’t work out. I do run a pair of Clear Day singles with my Spendors which sound great... |
