Spot on, Erik. I did a stint on TV repair long ago and remember that well. We used to really mess up TVs in the lab by dragging strong magnets across the CRT screen to practice using the degaussing coil to fix the mess.

The OP wants a reduction in surface noise. +1 Nagaoka MP500. Ortofon black mm with that technics. You will be blown away.

Assuming all the components are working well in combination, the turntable and its supporting structure has the most significant contribution to the retrieval of the maximum amount of data from the grooves. Changing tonearms and cartridges obvious...

You are speculating from your presumption. The turntable and its support is the foundation for everything further down the chain. While different cartridges may have wildly differing presentations, the turntable sets the fundamental characteristic...
