What does a tonearm contribute to the sound of a turntable?
@2channel8 The Jelco 850 and JAC501 cable will do what you are looking for. It is a very good arm. George Merrill has the best price.

@millercarbon 5" is what I have so I only speak from experience.I know you have a lot of concrete in your rack. But if it's sitting on bouncy floors, what then?

+1 You can't have a good turntable rig on suspended floors. You can bolster it and reinforce it but there's no beating 5" of concrete. I tried once. Now I'm in the basement.Not sure I agree with using any old subs, @millercarbon. I replaced an old... 
How much difference do lower mass cartridge clips make in playback?
I knew an audio tech who soldered the headshell wires directly to the pins of a Linn Asak. Amazingly, it worked and didn't destroy it.

To keep things less complicated, consider the Technics 1500GR with a Nagaoka MP110/150/200. Obviously, the better the cartridge, the better the sound. These are very musical. Go for it.
