Brian, I've 28 tubes in my phono > pre > monobloc chain. Every one of them makes a difference!   
Question about byamplification
The point of biamplification is to allow the amps concentrate on the frequencies specific to the load. So you need to cross over the signal before it gets to the amplifiers. You need the electronic crossover if you are to do this right.

@bkeske Good to hear the 5814A worked. As I mentioned, I find the CV400x to be a bit too warm so these are going to seem like a breath of fresh air!  @slaw I looked at the spec sheets of both and they are virtually identical give or take about 1%...
