Upgrades that met/exceeded your expectations and those that felt short
Exceeded: Upgraded my interconnect cables from Blue Jeans/Canare to Teo Audio GC's. Immediately superior clarity and dynamics.Exceeded: Replaced my Klipsch RB-61 II with Martin Logan Spires. Admittedly, that is a *big* step up.
Amplifier upgrade advice under $2000
Interestingly, the M504’s were rated for 4Ω in the EU market but not the North American one? Probably because they didn’t meet the US Standards for heat. But as the Ohm Walsh 2000 are rated at 6Ω so you should be fine as is.Now, if you wanted to tr...
Phonostage recommendations under $3K
Although they rarely surface on the used market, I've seen the Coincident Statement Phono Stage sell close to your price range.New, they sell for $6,500.
Questions about recording vimyl to computer?
You're right - recording from vinyl is much more work than ripping a CD.My workflow was turntable - > E-Mu 0404 USB ADC -> laptop running VinylStudio. VinylStudio is a great program for only $30 ($50 for the Pro version). The E-Mu cost me $7...
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)

Used Speaker in the 15k range
I would recommend you audition a pair of Martin Logan’s.They perform exceedingly well with classical, jazz, vocals, folk, etc. However they do require at least 3' of space around them.Wouldn’t be my first choice for strictly rock though.
How is
@millercarbonI don't know why you believe someone needs to spend $20,000 on a pair of monoblocks to get good sound? I run a pair of Soundcraftsmen PM860 monoblocks that I paid less than  $500 for. Yes, they're 40 years old. But they put out 900 W ...
which speaker to buy
If he already likes the Klipsch sound, then he should listen to a pair of La Scala's.
Never Owned a Tube Amp and Want Advice
You’ve been given a lot of really great advice.I’m going to suggest a different direction - why not consider a tube preamp? That way you get the best of both worlds!Edit: Oops! Just noticed you had found something. Never mind.
Speakers which always sound good
If you're looking for universal speaker that works in all room configurations, then you're going to have to settle for a compromise. An omni-directional speaker would probably be the answer. You can do it on the cheap with a Bose 901 or high end wit...
~$15K floorstanders: opinions sought
You’ve been given a lot of options. To the point of being overwhelmed, I imagine.I’ll throw out two suggestions to add to the fray.1. Coincident Total Victory V, $15,000 new - these rarely come on the used market; owners just do not part with them...
Best headphone amp under $400
There is no 'best'. Period.Only your ears will tell you what is 'best'.... for you. Some people like opamp based amps, some like R2R ladder based ones, while some prefer an all-discrete based one. Some people swear by tubes while others prefer solid...
Wanting to get back into the hobby and want to start with the speakers.
If you like panels, I'd recommend listening to Martin Logan's in your room. One word of warning -  they require space around them. You'll need to be able to place them at least 3' from the back wall.Whatever speaker you choose, consider room treatm...

Good economical used DAC to hunt down
Need a few more details. What is the rest of your system e.g. what will it be feeding? headphones or speakers?  Which brand/model? Are you listening to MP3's or hi-res? If hi-res, how hi? 96/24? 192/32? DSD?
