Rotel RB-880 1984-1987
I can't comment on the RB 880 but I did have the (?)RB 991 which was a great sounding amp. Since that, I've gone from tubes to battery powered amps and now have a Burson integrated which, now that I think of it, sounds very similar, in some ways, ...
Burson Integrated amps
Ndeslions:You've just described my PP-100! All the advantages of being very open with none of the drawbacks. I can only imagine betterment, a little more here, a little more there, that I would appreciate, beyond the cosmetics. Thanks,Tim
What good cd players are there for under $1000
Teac PD-H600.For $999.00 you get one hell of a CDP.
Transport and DAC or Upgrade CDP?
You might want to consider the TEAC PD-H600. I wanted to get off this merry-go-round and settle on a CDP and the TEAC fits my bill to a tee. Absolute Sound gave it a product of the year already and its not readily available but worth searching out...
Sieman-Phillips 7308 and JAN Phillips 6922
Tomycy6 is right. For a better understanding and history go to Brent Jessee's site and read what he has to say about the 6922 tubes.
Classic 16.0 Integrated Amp
Can't comment on the 16.0 but I do have the 6.1 and its pretty good. At first I thought it was great, thinking it would mellow out some but it retained just a bit of its stridency. This was through some Tonian TL-D1s and those speakers are very re...
Amplifier progression and change
If you live with only 2 sources and no remote, I'd check out the Burson integrated.I just got the older model and it is stunning. I can't believe it but from what I've read, the newer model is even better sounding.
Revisiting Tube Recommendations for Cayin TA-30
I, too, had the very same amp you have and only sold it because it got too hot in my upstairs apartment. That was one great sounding amp. If its tubes you're looking for and good advice to go with it, try Brent Jessee at his site. He is most accom...
Article explaining how CD players work
There is a great intro to a review that opened my eyes to how CD players work. It doesn't quite answer your question but goes a long way to explain some of it. The article is a review of the PS Audio Perfect Wave in the Dec. '09 issue of 6moons.co...
music hall 25.2 DAC mod
Rja, That is correct.
Need Help on HeadPhone AMP
The Burson HA-160 headphone amp just got a rave reveiw from Srajan @6moons. It retails for $699 but partsconnection might have it for less.As for headphones, it's all a matter of taste.
music hall 25.2 DAC mod
Being a noob with tubes, please bear with me.There is a label from Brent Jessee on the box that has a space for Gm1 & Gm2 and both have a 'check' after them.Tube type is 6922 and brand is RTC, Mfg. = Mazda. Prod. type = 1971 France. On the tube...
music hall 25.2 DAC mod
I, too, got a NOS '71 Mazda from Brent Jessee (w/RTC label) and it really transformed this DAC. He said he'd put it up against any EAT valve as theyare reversed engineered replicas built to very high tolerances but can't usethe same metals used in...
Diffusion versus absorption behind speakers?
I was told to try some wool carpets or blankets behind my speakers to keep my downstairs neighbor happy. I tried some thick 2.5' X 3' cotton rugs behind my speakers and she can't hear a thing now. If it can keep the sound from running down the wal...
Depairately seeking 1980's Sovtek 6922's
Try Brent Jessee at Audiotubes. He doesn't appear to stock them but he might be able to locate them for you. I just ordered a rare '70s Mazda for a great price. They don't pop up that often.
