Lossless Files Vs CD's
Al,Thank you very much for that post. It escapes attention that a properly designed (with isolation in mind and execution) CDP can sound as good (and sometimes better) as a well set up computer system. Shiny new object? :-)As you've stated in many...
What is a high end stereo SUPPOSED to sound like?
There's this guy's take which is as good as any what's been put forth so far:http://parttimeaudiophile.com/2012/07/10/your-hi-fi-sounds-like-crap/All the best,Nonoise
Is it time to upgrade
I forgot your mention of having a $1000 budget for a new CDP so here is my advice: try out the TEAC PD-H600. Think of it as "Esoteric Lite". It's capable of wonderful sound when correctly paired. You can get one at Amazon for 2/3s its retail price...

If you have some older cables lying around, try them. They were called 'tone controls' in the old days as each one imparted a different flavor as no cable is really neutral sounding. I went about a year not listening to my CDP (newer than yours bu...
Some old cables rescued me from computer audio.
Thanks Jejaudio,I knew I wasn't imagining all of this. There seems to be a common element in all of this: the Clear Day cables and another brand of minimalist design. All the best,Nonoise
Opinions on Magnepans sales/marketing approach to
Ah Bryon, dreaming. It's my favorite pastime. My uncle one time told me that If I ate candy and watched cartoons, I'd never grow old. Add dreaming to it and you have the perfect recipe for whatever ails you.All the best,Nonoise
Opinions on Magnepans sales/marketing approach to
Bryon,I agree with your idea but the logistics of something that large can scare off the maker. A buyer with that kind of disposable income could manage such an arrangement but for the maker, it is a different story. I'm sure their bean counters l...
Interesting Ads
I don't think Chayro was taken in by the self puffery, just impressed at what the guy has done. Some folk love to wax eloquent and expand when something concise will do, like in this ad.Nothing more. All the best,Nonoise

Thanks everyone!I'm keeping them apart: don't want to mess with a good thing. I seem to have 'zero' smearing due to any kind of interaction between the highs, mids and lows.I have this one CD (Acoustic France) where on one track, a woman walking a...

I know bi wiring has been done by others but does anyone know if any major make ever sold bi wire sets of speaker wire that didn't share the same sleeve/jacket? It would make sense to, sound wise, but the looks would suffer somewhat. Considering t...
What's up with that?
I too, don't know how this thread has gone as long as it has since I posted right after Swampwaters first post and it never made it to print. It went something like: It was too onerous a step to take. All the best,Nonoise

Ivan, thanks for the detailed response. It will be no problem to keep them separated since the Clear Day cables hang low due their weight and the Mapleshade ICs are so springy, they literally 'float' around and stay clear of everything else. I've ...
Interesting Ads
It sounds like the kind of conversation that at first blush, sounds interesting, and then you wish someone would call you away. It's just a piece of equipment. One's pedigree isn't a prerequisite for selling it. IMO, YMMV, etc. goes a long way bet...
