Women who enjoy quality speakers
My GF loves high end audio that I introduced to her when we met. In fact I set up a system in her house from components I had in storage including Alon Lotus SE mk ll speakers, Nola subwoofer, MIT speaker cables and PS Audio P300 regenerator for s...
Thiel cs2.3
Pass Labs Aleph 3 for that pure class A sound that knocks on the 300b door but drives much harder.
Harbeth 40.2 or Vandersteen Quatro CT
I own the Quatros and nothing beats the 10 band bass equalizer in each speaker and the damping controls for room tuning. One can dial these speakers precisely to the room and achieve spectacular results. The time alignment doesn’t hurt either...
AQ Rocket 88 DBS or no DBS?
I use the Rocket 88 for high level input on my sub from the speakers woofer input and the DBS makes a substantial change in the articulation and clarity. I might also add that I prefer the old 72vdc battery packs vs the new ones with the RF trap. ...
Anybody have Focal Kanta 2
I heard the Kanta 2 at RMAF two years ago and they were damn near best of the show IMHO. They were using NAIM gear and had a good setup although not ideal but man did they bring the goods!
Speaker recommendations for MC275
Any of the Nola Viper series mate extremely well with the MC275 mk vi. I run the Viper 1AX with the AlNiCo drivers/Mundorf Silver/Gold oil cap upgrades and it is a match that is tough to beat in shear musicality. Of course, speakers are a personal...
Why did Parasound discontinue the Halo JC-1 monoblock amplifiers?
I was invited to see a private viewing of the amp that is replacing the JC-1 at RMAF last Sept. from Mr. Schram himself. Suffice it to say that as good as the JC-1’s are, these are going to boggle your mind!
What is the most FUN pair of speakers you've ever had and why?
A pair of the original Alon 1’s had boogie factor in spades, could handle most anything it was fed and threw an enormous soundstage. I missed many a night sleep with those speakers.
Mahogany Rush
@jamesclarke - He came up with the name of Mohogany Rush due to extensive LSD use and was actually hospitalized for a bad trip and was describing how he was feeling and he said " “It was a description of the acid trip I was on—I told the doctors ...
Any experience using a PS Audio Ultimate Outlet
Having used the UO over the years in several systems since it was introduced, I can say that it's best implemented in front of any digital component as the Balun will mitigate digital noise from being dumped back on the AC line. Also, while the st...
Mahogany Rush
A bit of trivia here; How did Frank come up with the name of Mahogany Rush? BTW, Juggernaut is all killer, no filler. Love the guitar/solo on "Ditch Queen"...
EAR 834p mods - specific mods, specific sounds?
The least evasive but offers the most ROI is tube rolling. Remember that V2 is the RIAA section so care should be taken with this tube. The tube heaters are wired in parallel so keep that in mind as well.
Infinity Epsilon
This might help as it talks about the servo woofer amp requirements/setup.https://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/infinity_irs_epsilon_loudspeaker/index.html
Vandersteen 5a vs Genesis 5.3 ?
hifiman5 - In a word, no. I used the Genesis as a reference for tuning the bass on the Vandersteens so in essence they are the same or as close as can be obtained. That is where the damping controls on the Vandersteens are invaluable.
Vandersteen 5a vs Genesis 5.3 ?
I have a pair of Genesis 500's and Vandersteen Quatros. Both are very good at exploiting their design philosophies. The Genesis are only a hand full of speakers that their character does not change with vertical listening height plus the servo woo...
