Preamps: Ayre K-5xeMP vs Pass Labs XP-10 vs Arcam C49
@wasquatch, I think the most comparable Parasound would be the Halo JC2 linestage. Which was on my shortlist when shopping. But honestly I am so impressed with the Ayre sound that I think I will stick with Ayre amplification gear for the future.
Who listens primarily to Redbook CD?
Pretty much most of us I think. But all my files are ripped into my PC as lossless. And also a huge vinyl collection.
Denafrips Terminator R2R Multibit, ultimate pcm redbook converter??
@kalali, but we managed to not let you go broke, if typical Audiogon wisdom prevailed you'd be shelling out for a TotalDac. My dilemma is to whether order the 1541 now, or wait a bit and order the Denafrips Venus...
Preamps: Ayre K-5xeMP vs Pass Labs XP-10 vs Arcam C49
@OP, I am using the K5xeMP now and I agree, it is a sweet preamp, and also the best preamp I've used up to this point. So why don't you either buy another one, or if upgrading, buy the KX5-20 or the KXR-20, depending on budget.
Denafrips Terminator R2R Multibit, ultimate pcm redbook converter??
@jaybe , the T+A dac isn't R2R, it uses Burr-Brown dac chips, it's a delta sigma dac.Good article on NOS vs OS (all delta-sigma dacs oversample):https://kitsunehifi.com/2375-2/the Soekris 1541 should be badass.
From B&W 801D to Dynaudio evidence temptation?
The issue is, the Temptations are so old, tech has improved a lot since then. I mean, they are still super high end but, the Esotar 2 is very old tech by now. I'd at least look around and listen to a pair of the new Contour 60s, they are pretty la...
Denafrips Terminator R2R Multibit, ultimate pcm redbook converter??
@dragon_vibe , that's a machine manufactured R-2R chipset, I wouldn't expect point to point or hand assembled dac of this kind (the R-2R circuitry). That'd be sort of ridiculous, impossible even.
Denafrips Terminator R2R Multibit, ultimate pcm redbook converter??
I am actually very interested in the Venus, one step down from the Terminator. Essentially my next dac will be a R-2R dac and I'm considering the Holo Audio Kitsune Edition, Denafrips Venus or the highest end Soekris.
If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
I think bi-amping is stupid.
best tube integrated under $5000 ?
Currently two tiny single driver speakers for my bedroom/second system. But I did run my Legacy Audio Signature SEs with the Dynamo when I received it, and it sounded magical...on critical listening probably not as "tight" as my solid state McInto...
best tube integrated under $5000 ?
Second the Coincident Dynamo. I have the MK1 version...and it is just brilliant.  I may purchase their higher wattage integrated for my main system down the line.
Ayre introduces the AX-8 integrated amp
I believe there's also the QX-8 DAC, I have the literature from Ayre's Facebook page.  It has the double -diamond output stage, Ayrelock power supply, Equilock gain stage, and DSD upto 128.  So it's pretty fancy. I'd hate to think they'd price it ...
Icon Audio Stereo 30 SE
I've always been curious about Line Magnetic...and the 518IA may be a great fit.  Bit pricier than I'm looking to spend, but used price should be in range.  It's not auto biasing though right? Is it easy to bias the tubes?
Icon Audio Stereo 30 SE
Kdude,Yeah the Legacies are pretty efficient and I do not use subwoofers.  I actually like the KT150s...as I've heard the Primaluna integrated with KT150s and loved the sound of it.
Small living room speaker options.. Totem Arro?
To be fair, the Model 1 Signatures are the first really good speakers I heard that completely blew me away.  Now you gotta wonder, there are plenty of overpriced 2 way monitors that are 5K ish.  Totem Model 1 Sigs were very, very good speakers ind...
