Biggest impact: moving from integrated to separates I'm eventually going the opposite route, going from separates to an uber class integrated like Gryphon, Vitus or T+A.
Focal Kanta No.2 speakers - any thoughts? Also in comparison with Sonus Faber Olympica 3s? My thoughts...whenever I heard Sonus Fabers, they seemed laid back to me. That seems to be what they are tuned for, a darker sound. And Focals are quite opposite. So you can't really compare them. Plus you don't want to rush into buying something...
Magico A3 @ebm you're bang on about Absolute Sound...I ignore anything they write about Magicos.
Magico A3 For an experimental office system I'd pick single driver speakers and a low power tube or ss integrated.
I love my PS Audio Direct Stream with Red Cloud :) Metrum is r2r, but there's FPGA processing:http://www.the-ear.net/review-hardware/metrum-acoustics-adagio-dacpreamplifier"New to the Adagio are Transient DAC Two modules, a further development of the Transient and FPGA architecture used in the Pav...
Magico A3 It's an interesting thought. I think if this is say, the flagship, I'd assume a smaller floorstander (minus one woofer) at 8K and a monitor at maybe even 5/6K. Or if this is the middle of the range, a larger floor stander at 12-14K.Either way, si...
I love my PS Audio Direct Stream with Red Cloud :) I believe Exogal Comet and Merlot dac are also FPGA, and of course the Metrum dacs. I like PS Audio, own a PWD M2 and it's very good, but I believe that one is delta sigma using burr brown chips.
I love my PS Audio Direct Stream with Red Cloud :) Isn't the PS Audio still a delta sigma dac? I mean it does use off the shelf dac chips right?
PS Audio PWT and PWD MK II--recent acquisiton Dynaudio C20s, Totem Model 1 Signatures if you can find a pair, Dynaudio Special 40s, or any model from Legacy Audio in your budget, however they use AMT tweeters and I'm not sure how you'll find them. I think your main issue may be you just aren'...
Which watts are the right watts in SS amps? From my real world experience, when I'm looking at the VU meters of my 250 watt/ch power amp, even at loud listening levels, they stay around the 2.5 watts to 25 watts range (MacIntosh MC 252), hovering more towards the 2.5 watt gradation. But my ...
Gryphon Diablo 300: at the top of Integrated Amps? Slightly off topic, but what about the price and performance of the Gryphon Diablo 120:http://www.gryphon-audio.dk/products/integrated-amplifiers/diablo-120.aspxAnyone heard this unit? Given my room size...this may be good enough for me. I'm highl...
Former Tekton owners: What have you moved on to? @stereo5 , HAHAHAHAHAHA...yes!
Ayre Acoustics AX-5 Twenty That's very difficult to say. Dynaudios typically demo with Octave gear, so no doubt there's great synergy there. I heard the C20s with Primaluna, which also sounded great. As for Ayre, if their entry level preamp is this good (K5xeMP), then I'd ...
Ayre Acoustics AX-5 Twenty Sorry - to answer your question, I think if the speakers are somewhat efficient (don't know which model you're talking about), ie, like 87db and up, the Ayre would be a very good match for Dynaudios.
Ayre Acoustics AX-5 Twenty I own Ayre K5xeMP and owned Dynaudios (Focus 140) before. I wouldn't call Ayre dark, or Dyanudios lively. In my experience, Ayre is dead quiet, noise free if you will, very open and transparent, and believe it or not, it's a bit sweet, I certainl... |
