How do Dunlavys compared to new stuff?
Like many have said: Equal or usually surpassing new stuff regardless of price range. YMMV a bit but not by much! In my electronics have come and gone but my Dunlavy Vs and IVs sig remain. Just about recently, i have found electronics as capable a...

Jamscience, I can't thank you enough for tracking this down. Just ordered CD and Vinyl. I think it is same version as I have listened to the chanel show many times. at least the first 8 minutes of it and then it switched to probably one of the oth...

Maple Shade Recordings?
I practically have all their catalogue except for new ones that came out last year or so. Agree with Mapman: Sound 10/10 Performance : depending on the selection : 6 to 10.At times, I had always wondered about what some famous singers with obvious...

Agree on dZihan and Kamien and K&D Recommendations. If you really want to explore boundaries of electronic music creations, you should get " Autechre". ( i don't think this mentioned on this thread) Autechre's older LPs may be hard to get as t...

If anyone is starting out in electronic music listening you can't go wrong with the basic channel, M series by Maurizio and Rhythm & Sound. They are all available on Vinyl as 12" singles- cd compilation is also available, but vinyl is highly r...

Natural and Neutral could be boring ..
Agree with Opus88. In real life, neutral and natural are two different things. Neutral is a audiophile concept, Natural is well, natural as in non amplified live sound.Ideally Neutral is supposed to emulate natural but *it almost never does* in re...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Frank, agree 100% on your 12/21/10 post:"Tvad, actually the answer IS all 3. What makes it even more bizarre is that you can pick up the total system of someone who says answer 1, plunk it down, absolutely perfectly transported and setup identical...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Indeed it is very hard to get details, dynamics and warmth but like with right tubes and system *synergy* (here we ago again- components, cabling and matched speakers) it is possible to get both, may be not to the fullest as experienced in real li...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Albertporter and others who have had frustrating experience with digital, I am not sure which $$$$$ digital you have tried but, i tell you, if you ever have a chance give it a try on the Zanden digital combo. It would be even more rewarding and ey...
How close to the real thing?
"Yeah, and if you still have the piano in the same room as your stereo system I'll slide the cover off the keyboard, play a single note and say:"Gosh was I being generous when I said 5%!" "Very profound statement indeed!
I have three digital sources
I too had found the (I think they are herbies) dampers to damp the sound too much- making it unnatural. On different tube equipment though. Just to confirm, that IME, dampers do more harm than good- if you did not need dampers to begin with.
How close to the real thing?
Definitely more than 5% (Caveat: In a well set up non-hifi, musical sounding ref system, regardless of price) less than 95%, and at times, depending upon type of music and recording quality, it may approach 95% at times. 100% is 'never' going to b...
