Spectron Musician trun on noise / tweeter hiss
My MK2 is dead quiet even with my ear up to the speaker's tweeter and midrange.Besides what has already been mentioned the amp likes clean power. It wouldn't be bad to use a good power cord connected to a condtioner like the Shunaya which allows u...
Spectron III SE vs. Signature III SE MK2
Yes, there is a discernable difference for the better in the SE vs. the MK2 mainly due to the improvements in the reconstruction filter. There are other improvements in the MK2 version detailed on their webpage. The V-Cap option is also worth it im...
LCD HD TV Picture Quality Lacking
How are you connecting the HD cables boxes to the LCD? If by standard cable from the cable company to the back of the TV, that is a problem right there. You should be using a high quality HDMI cable or at very least a high quality component cable.
Anyone knows the Classe CA-401?
I'd suggest the Spectron Audio Musician III SE Mk2. It is a very musical amp with tremendous headroom and extention and almost 'tube-like' but without the 'veil'. It will drive any and the most demanding speakers including your Thiels.
Best outlet
The Wattgate 381 Ag was recommended to me by the Cable Co. They said it was the one that their customers eventually ended up with.I have one and it sounds good.
Hissing from Speakers/Amp?
I have a Spectron Musician III SE MK2 amp and it drives a pair of 803D B&W speakers. Pre/pro is an Anthem D1. It was dead silent when I purchased the amp. Spectron has the amp now and can't find anything wrong with it.Maybe this is normal but ...
Is there a big difference or am I wasting money?
There will be some difference given the 804S' aluminum tweeter and Rocehell woofers but if I were going to upgrade, I'd buy the 803S which is much more balanced in terms of bass and overall presence.I have the 803Ds for my mains and have listened ...
Power Conditioner and Surge Protector
I use a PS Audio Power Plant Premier for my source and pre/pro, TV and cable box and plug my amp (which can draw a lot of power...Spectron MK2) into the wall. The only thing I might consider plugging the amp into is a Shunyata Hydra-8 but I don't ...
How to ship speakers
Having worked for FedEx for 20 years and knowing the practices and operations of most all the carriers, the advice here is good.If your speakers are under 50 lbs, I'd ship them FedEx or UPS ground packaged as mentioned with the corners double insu...
Von Schweikert 4SR...bi-wire or Remote Sense?
I have and he doesn't quite know the answer. When John is available, I plan to ask him.
Von Schweikert 4SR...bi-wire or Remote Sense?
I have the new MK2 Spectron with my B&W 803D. Currently I have them bi-wired with a double run of Audioquest Gibraltar. I was wondering myself if I should perhaps use the Remote Sense Cables for the low end and the Gibraltar's for the mid/high...
Calling Thiel Owners: MC501s to drive CS3.7?
Take a look at the Spectron Musician III SE MK2. It a very musical amp combining the audio quality of tube like (not tube though) mid and highs and SS tighness and richness of bass. It can drive anything down to .1 ohm and has 600 watts@8ohms and ...
leave power on?
Spectron amps advise one in their manual to leave their amp on 24/7. It only draws 40 watts at idle.
Banana plugs, Spades or a little of each?
All other things being equal (the quality of the spades and bananas commpared), spades provide more contact area and are supposedly a better audio connector.Yes, you can hear the difference in a poor quality spade and a higher quality one assuming...
Classe vs mcintosh
I went through the same decision process for my 803D mains and ended up with a Spectron Musician III SE MK2. Best of both worlds combined plus 1, imo.
