MC275 KT88 tubes blowing left and right
What do you actually know about the tubes? While I assume they were 'matched' that is often an empty or less than useful promise. Some tubes require less current to bias properly, some more. Auto bias circuits usually operate in a pre-set range and...
Tape Loop Testing On A Preamp?
The PC card RCA should go to the "Tape In" not the "Tape Out". Right idea, wrong hole.
Tape Loop Testing On A Preamp?
Yes, it means the tape loop is working. You are doing something else perhaps? What was connected to the 'tape in' RCAs when you had problems? What was connected to the 'tape output' RCAs when you had your problem?
How to unpack 150lbs+ towers
With help perhaps, stand the speaker on its top, open the bottom of the box, then turn the box over right side up (with the end flaps bent out) and then lift up the box off the speaker. Voila! Everything done, no strain, no damage.
Tape Loop Testing On A Preamp?
Jefferybehr, You are right. What can I say? I should have said 'if it is working you will not hear anything but the music playing'. OK?
Recording/Engineering Practices
I mispoke in my OP. The label was Highnote not Blue Note. I can see why someone would think that it was Rudy Van Gelder though. Sorry 'bout that. :-(Well I really got curious and I reversed the wires on one speaker so they would be out of phase wi...
recommendations for tube dampers???
I always thought the Pearls looked neat, especially on power tubes. But to my knowledge it never extended tube life at all, never altered the sound and those rings holding them dried out. I've used the silicone rings on small tubes in a phono stag...
Tape Loop Testing On A Preamp?
One simple way to check out a tape loop is to take one set of IC's and connect them to the tape in and tape out creating a simple loop. Then play a CD or whatever and hit the tape monitor switch. If it's working you will not hear anything - the mu...
Fine trumpet , alto sax recordings?
Not 'smooth jazz' but it sure is great evening listening - Andre Previn (P) and Thomas Stephens (T) "Play and American Song Book. DRG5222. Been around for a while so it might be OOP. One of my favorite late PM CD's (Along with Charlie Haden's reco...
why is a step up transformer used
Personally I get a cartridge with enuf gain to drive your phono pre-amp w/out noise. Step up's are a compromise, IMHO of course. You can get more gain though and if your not too fussy........
Right Channel louder than the left
Dravid1, Doesn't the pre-amp have tubes in the phono section? If so, those would be the tubes that were referred to. Your other sources would not 'see' the phono stage tubes in the pre-amp so it is possible that those could be the problem even tho...
Do your speakers have enough "freshness"
I attriute it to less distortion, better resolution. One of the big differences in my present speakers from thier predecesssors are the Dynaudio Esotar drivers.
Right Channel louder than the left
Before you truck tht pre-amp down to a techie simply switch the tubes in the phono stage from left to right. See if anything changes. If not, tubes are not your problem.
Right Channel louder than the left
I'm not surprised. Did you check the leads on the phono cartridge? Try reversing these leads and see if the channel reverses accordingly. You could have a problem in the cartridge itself.
Right Channel louder than the left
The first thing I would do is reverse the leads from the TT/Phono to the pre-amp and see if this change is reflected on the VU meters. If it is the easiest thing to check first would be the anti skate after you check all of your IC's and wire rout...
