Embedded rumble... on LP's that is...
Yes Listens2 is correct, I should have used the term 'subsonic' in my 2d paragraph but some guy called Nsgarch called it a 'rumble filter', who was I to argue! :-) FWIW my last unit with a filter called it a 'low' filter. But, a rose with any name...
Questions for specialists on “warmth”
Here is something I've been thinking about. Can the perception of warmth be less of a matter of frequency bending and more of the rise and decay of the electronic's. I think a lot of equipment, especially SS stuff, is so fast, especially in dampin...
Questions for specialists on “warmth”
Trackmango, You asked 'what was my point'. OK, here is my point. I detected nothing in your original post that even remotely suggested to me that you were honestly trying to define the term 'warmth' or in what context people used it. You sounded t...
Questions for specialists on “warmth”
"It seems to me that warmth is manipulated by engineering". Got some news for you, everything in audio reporduction is 'manipulated' by engineering. ROTFLMAO. You get the troll of the day award! If this ain't a troll.....oh well.
Speaker Placement or Room
Ecruz, Glad it helped. FWIW, and perhaps its just me, but I find the pink noise in the Stereophile disc to be more constant and easier to track. The tone on the Rives disc did not seem as constant and it also seemed more beamy, especially in the h...
ground wire?
When you attach your RCA's to the amp does it hum? If not your don't need a ground wire.
Speaker Placement or Room
While it may be obvious, what the hell! Don't forget that where your listening seat is located can play a huge difference. Especially if you've got it sitting in a null. Play with both speakers and listening position. For example, with your test d...
Thinking of adding a preamp to an integrated...
There are outboard 'input selector' boxes you can use by just connecting their output to one of the source selections on you integrated. These a passive line level devices with out a volume control which is what you want. If you get a seperate pre...
What dynamic spkr. did you go to from electrostat?
I went from Quad 63's to Paragon Jubilee/Jems (a three way four piece set up using Dynaudio drivers) to Tyler Signature Systems (One piece). In my room the latter are all that I could ask for - they are as resolved, more dynamic, and you can actua...
dunlavy bass/ room loading question
I'd bet your problem has less to do with the floor surface than the fact that you have your speakers too close to the wall behind them (an assumption based on your stated dimensions and listening distance). The listening position could also be res...
Used TT, Arm and Cartridge
No recommendations on TT's, you've got enuf already. However, I did note you were selecting your TT design based on the fact that it was going to be in a second story room. I assume you think the the floors might flex and that the suspended design...
My system is bright? I need help. thanks
Scientist73,Cello made high quality and expensive products. Probably very few here have ever heard them, and even fewer with the Eggleston speakers. I'd take odds that no one has! Don't buy them unless YOU hear them first with your speakers in you...
High power rating=better speakers?
High power ratings don't equal better speakers, except in the spec's you can calculate how loud they are designed to play before the sound/speakers or your ears distruct. Your current speakers should be able to reproduce sound at 118db +/- a db or...
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
Interesting observations Nsgarch. I gave up on multichannel attempts at recreating a concert hall at home many years ago. I also agree that there is a lot of information on the disc's to be recovered, much of it is the out of phase information pre...
Embedded rumble... on LP's that is...
Low frequency rumble can come from lots of things. Some of the old RCA Living Stereos made in London have rumble from the underground (subway). Air conditioners can cause it, so can truck traffic outside the recording venue. This is 'audible rumbl...
