Is it truly HT bypass
Correct. HT bypass means the volume control is disabled and instead there will be unity gain. It doesn't necessarily mean the DAC2 circuitry is being bypassed, although with some electronics a majority of circuitry will be bypassed. For the followi...
Is it truly HT bypass
Normally you would have the subwoofer connected to your AV7005, and then analog L/R from the AV7005 into the DAC2 with HT bypass set for that pair of analog inputs.
Looking for a front end streamer only.
At that price point you should look at Aurender or Lumin. Both companies provide high quality products with good features and after sale support. My personal recommendation would be a Lumin U1, as I like Lumin's consumer electronics (CE) approach t...
Aes-ebu vs. balanced cable
@engineears I don't think there is any pro or con associated with using a 110 Ohm impedance cable for analog balanced XLR interconnects. This Sound on Sound article Understanding Impedance has a good section on the 600 Ohm standard and why we don't...
DCS DACs vs each other
@ejlif Antelope is much more visible in the pro audio market and have been around for a relatively long time. They did make some efforts towards the consumer audio market starting several years ago, but never a huge push so they're not very well k...
Computer Guru's, Does my external Hard Drive go to sleep if its still blinking?
@ozzy seems like unplugging and plugging back in for playback sessions would be the same as spinning down and spinning up for playback sessions, and therefore not reduce any risk if your concern is with mechanical degradation causing a failure. Ke...
iTunes
If you're streaming from iTunes on your Mac to the Apple TV, it is already using AirPlay. Since there's no hardwire digital audio connection between the Mac and Apple TV.(For what it's worth, I cannot get radio stations to show up when I search ei...
Computer Guru's, Does my external Hard Drive go to sleep if its still blinking?
@ozzy I think the only way to be sure what the blinking LED means is to find out from the enclosure manual or manufacturer. Sometimes it means data is being read/written, but it could mean sleep mode with the drives spun down. The LED might also b...
Computer Guru's, Does my external Hard Drive go to sleep if its still blinking?
The hard disk "enclosure" LED will usually stay on or blink to indicate it is receiving power although the drive itself may have been spun down. You might want to check the enclosure manual to see if they have anything listed for the LED as a stat...
DAC filters
@recluse "amplification" of the "effect" of the analog filter choice is no longer the analog filter choice, but rather intentionally introducing distortion.Which designers (and sound engineers) do, but not by trying to mimic the effect of a filter...
DAC filters
The different analog filter choices on DAC chips should not have an impact on the volume, just on the signal. So it doesn't make sense to change the signal amplitude unless you're specifically trying to make the user prefer one filter over the oth...
Subwoofer. Great one song. Not so great the next song.
Plugging ports on a speaker isn't the same as the speaker having been designed with a sealed cabinet to begin with. So instead of plugging the ports, it would be better to set the crossover high enough that the speaker ports are unused (or mostly ...
Subwoofer. Great one song. Not so great the next song.
One possibility is that, because you haven’t done any PEQ, some frequencies are being reproduced at the (mostly) correct SPL while others are too loud and overwhelming. The e110 doesn’t have any PEQ functionality built-in so you’d need to add an o...
Passive preamp
Passive preamps are more difficult to get properly integrated because of the potential impedance mismatch. A mismatch that can also vary by volume setting. Also, without active input/output buffers, the individual components' circuit electrical cha...
Why do Tidal or Qobuz have hi resolution Music not available to download for purchase?
Licensing restrictions most likely.
