Schiit Vidar.... Anyone heard one yet? I have one in the trunk of my car. Will listen to it over the weekend and post impressions.
Lesser known 2 way bookshelf Speakers from the 80's The ProAc Studio 1 Mk. 2 - astonishing quality and quantity of bass for the size speaker it is. Ditto the Response 2, thought that probably doesn't count as "lesser-known."The Epos ES14 remains a great sounding speaker. Both the Celestions menti...
How would a vintage Boulder 500AE compare to modern equivalents? I'd email Boulder directly to ask if if any service is suggested.Been way too long since I heard one, but it was darn good when I did - early 1990s.
Add an XPS-DR to Naim 272 or ...? If you're not familiar with the Naim forums, you should acquaint yourself. It is here: http://forums.naimaudio.com/forum/hi-fi-corner
Audiolab 8200CD software erased can anyone help, self destruction Perhaps contact Audiolab? Just a thought . . .
Any Rotel love around here? Looking to power my Sonus Faber Olympica 3 Try an Exposure 3010S2D integrated. Rotel is OK, but I don't think it competitive with upper end lines, many of which are available for less than upper end Rotel.
Mark Levinson No. 20.6 vs. Krell KRS 200 vs. Krell KAS OP - Unless you want to change for the fun of it, just keep the 20.6s. They are, as you already know, amongst the very best sounding amps ever made, and if you're happy with how everything sounds, changing them seems a recipe for disappointment. ...
Proton 1100 Pre-amp and 1200 Amp Keep them. They're worth more to you than anyone else. IIRC, Proton is effectively re-badged NAD. The most recent amp sale I could find in a cursory eBay search suggests the amp is worth about $400; the last preamp sale suggests it sold for $30...
Looking for seperates under $5k~ If you're looking new, I just tried 805s (whatever the new Diamond version is) with an Exposure 3010S2 preamp/power amp. Worked beautifully, so might be worth a look. The 3010S2 pre and power are about $3800 new.
Integrated for Vandersteen 2ce sigII Naim SuperNait 2 or Exposure 3010S2D work beautifully with Vandys.
Leaving the Naim game . . . I'm enjoying Exposure - first time in a long time I'm not wondering what the next box upgrade should be. The only frustration is that I can't listen to it as much as I'd like - with a small house and a 2.5 year old, it's challenging. Now, about ...
Chord DAVE alternatives? Although there is a significant performance jump to DAVE, I think the Hugo TT is excellent, and the best "value" in the Chord lineup above the Mojo (which is extremely good for a $600 DAC).
RMAF 2016 "No Schiit?" Amen to different strokes!Love to hear it in a controlled environment sometime. On a positive note, I got to compare the Chord Hugo to Hugo TT to DAVE. No prizes for guessing that DAVE was the best sounding - it was nothing short of brilliant.
Electronics for Harbeth, Especially Monitor 40 series Try Chord or Exposure separates; both would count as "fast." Naim would be worth a try also; but you'd probably need a 282/HicapDR/250 combo. I've heard all three run big Harbeths (and Spendors) very well.
Leaving the Naim game . . . Jafant - I bought it from the UK; it was about $375 shipped for a 3 meter set with bananas. Took a while to break in, but sounds very good indeed. NO clue how it compares to most US cables; never played there. I think the most "modern" other in... |
