OPPO BDP-103 (NON Darby)
The ARC is a very good preamp.  I suggested CJ based on what you wrote about finding the Rotel to be a bit sterile.  There's also a CJ PV14L on Agon; along with a Classic 2 (new, from an authorized dealer); both are well worth considering.  NB - I...

You might also try a Conrad-Johnson PV10 or similar.  Very good sounding, well-made, straightforward.  From your description of Rotel the CJ could be a better way to move forward.
The merry go round. $700 seperates or integrated?
Go for an Adcom GFA555 or equivalent with a GFP 555 or 565 (preferred) preamp.Alternatively, a Rotel RB980 or similar with a RC990.
Pros & Cons of Buying an Integrated with Built-in DAC?
It would probably be worth trying a Nait XS or a SuperNait.  Both very good sounding, have built-in upgrade options, will last effectively forever, and have excellent support.  If you don't mind used, a SuperNait has a good DAC built in (yes, iron...
CD players that make for a great transport
Briefly: PIoneer DV09 works very well as a CD only transport.  I bought one inexpensively and it is feeding into a Meridian 563 DAC via an AQ Cinnamon coax digital cable.  There are two striking differences.  The first is clarity - you can quite l...
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
Are audiophiles out of their minds for spending (relatively) large amounts of money on cables?  Having been in the business and seen the margins on expensive cables, and having heard the frankly BS stories attached to many of them, first reaction ...

Rotel RT1080 - between $100-200 tops.Linn Kudos - between $200-300.  A rather grand leap up performance-wise.
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Try the Chord DAVE.
$500 used CD Player Recommendations
I've had a couple of the Rotel 1072s, in part to the suggestions of people here.  Terrific player, and preferable to the newer 1520.  Excellent support from Rotel if needed.A Rega would be a good choice also - very good sounding, good support, and...
Pros & Cons of Buying an Integrated with Built-in DAC?
I agree with ADG - get the best sounding integrated amp you can, and then add a separate DAC.I've been using a Meridian 263, from about 1992, and it is still very good musically/sonically.  The downside is that it won't work with any newer formats...

Minorl - Hope you're right re the DV09 - bought one to try and will report back.
Are Naim speakers worth the money
They're like anything else.  Some people will love them, some will hate them, most will be in the middle. When properly set up and driven, they can sound absolutely fantastic.  The best system I've ever heard was the old Naim DBL actively driven by...
Integrated or receiver or separates advice sought
Lind - Yep. I've been around a while . . . and mostly out of hifi for a few years. Hence the question.
Linn/Naim user seeks advice on tube pre/ss amp
Hi all.....Thanks for the responses! I appreciate the thoughts. I've been up and down the Naim ladder, all the way to 52/active SBLs, and got back with Linn. Can you all recommend a good pairing? Like, for example, would a CJ PV9 or PV12 match wit...
Cartridge for my Linn Sondek LP12?
The Akito is a fairly good arm, although an Ittok is better still, and a better arm with a cheaper cartridge will outperform a better cartridge in a less good arm. I remember being surprised at how much better the Akito was than my Basik Plus, and...
