Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
Anyway, sorry for hijacking my own thread. Certainly interested in other thoughts on Knopfler. They only pre-released one song for the upcoming album, "Good On You Son" and I like it okay but not blown away.

No presumption here whatsoever. Never claimed to know anything about his religious life except what he said publicly when specifically asked about it. We can, of course, take that sort of thing into account.I also have no problem with a public fig...
Your single favorite musician on any given instrument?
shadorne, I agree and that's part of the reason I listed John Bonham and in fact, Chad Smith says that is why he thinks JB was the best drummer ever. Keith Moon was similar in his approach.

wtf, his solo stuff seems to follow a fairly common theme and common style. Nothing wrong with that but I think to appreciate them all, it becomes about subtlety and nuance and may take more time to grow on me. A lot of it is understated and slow ...

geoff, the interviews I heard from Dylan ( a few years ago) were very evasive and non-committal. Very unlike Bono, for instance. Maybe Dylan has changed his tune, I don't know. For Van Morrison it seems like it was an intense but passing phase. Ag...

It seems like Dylan and Van Morrison liked to dabble in religion. Doesn't seem like it stuck with either one of them.....like it did with Cat Stevens.

There is a video interview about the Tracker album. It was shot in that studio. Knopfler relates that he enjoys the whole process: writing, playing, recording, producing and even touring. He considers himself lucky in that regard. He seems to be a...

John Bonham on drums. There are a number of great YouTube videos that explain why...outside the obvious.
Thoughts on Big Star
Generally agree with your premise, but there are plenty of albums that had to grow on me over time. Some of them are among my favorites. I think about Astral Weeks this way. Working on Veedon Fleece right now. Both of these can be polarizing among...

Thanks, good information.
Thoughts on Big Star
Are you referring to the sound quality or the music/songs in general?I've been listening to all three via iTunes and find Radio City my least favorite. Third appeals to me most with #1 Record coming in second.I find myself wanting a 'best of' coll...
Whats playing on your system today?
Well, it was a baited anecdote, but I didn’t set it up well. There is no one in the band named Marshall Tucker, of course. They took their name from an envelope they found in a house Marshall Tucker used to live in. He was a blind man and my wife ...
Thoughts on Big Star
Listening to #1 Record right now (iTunes). Did not realize that the theme song from That 70’s Show was "In The Street". I’ve led a sheltered life.
Whats playing on your system today?
My wife had dinner with Marshall Tucker once.
