Can I use an isolation stand with an isolation pad?
Here is a possibly dumb solution:How about suspending the subwoofer from the ceiling? Before you laugh, when I was in college our dorm (barracks) had very bouncy wooden floors. Even my roommates B&O turntable with its own internal suspension wo...
Thinking about a new, lower end CD Player
CD92 with the 'ring' DAC (the part which isn't working). The odd thing is that it will play through the DAC/RCA outputs for maybe a minute when you first turn it on then it gets all garbled up and quits playing altogether. We do have some Goodwill ...

Unless you're into glam/pop you might want to skip Young and Dangerous. ;-)

Thank you. Will be interesting to see what your take is on them (or any severely compressed DR stuff).
Whats playing on your system today?
uberwaltz, I like Knopfler’s Get Lucky (2009) and the Privateering double CD (2012). I love Tracker (2015), listening to it now. It is probably in my top 10 albums. So I was hoping Down the Road Wherever would be a continuation in that line.
Turning off tube preamp first sends solid state amp into protection?
Thanks guys. Small correction to my post: When pushing the standby button on the amp to the standby position there is a tiny pop from the speakers and a click within the amp. Turning the pre-amp off first (I don't do it anymore) makes a loud pop i...

Two examples:Newish band called The Struts. Album is Young and Dangerous. Not ’audiophile’ type music. Very pop. The Dynamic Range database, for what its worth, gives its average DR as 5. Minimum track DR is 4. Max track DR is 6.Alabama Shakes. So...

michael, I still don't understand. Sorry, I might be being dense here. But if you take a recording with a compressed dynamic range how can you expand the range beyond what exists on the recording? If it isn't there then it isn't there. To take an e...
Turning off tube preamp first sends solid state amp into protection?
I'm glad this came up. I'm a newbie at this. I have an AR LS-16 (tube) and a SS Proceed HPA2 amp.The pre-amp has a 45 second warm-up timer before anything will function. The amp has two buttons. A tiny off/on button and a large large round 'standby...
Thoughts on Big Star
For Alex Chilton fans, look up the song "Make a Little Love". I've had it in my CD collection for years without making the connection between him and Big Star (because I didn't know anything about Big Star). You are probably aware of it, but if no...

@bdp24, my favorite blues song is by Little Walter: "Hate to See You Go". The Stones cover it on their recent blues album. To your list I'd add Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside, both Mississippi hill country blues singers. R.L.'s later stuff is a...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
@maritime51 said:"And, the wench?"She was not happy with how much I spent on the winch and its cable.
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
cakyol, Car jumper cables are usually junk with a lot of aluminum in them. But, I recently wired a winch cable from the front of my truck back to my car trailer winch. That heavy high grade cable is super pricey, especially if it is pure copper. I...
Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
I've listened to Down the Road Wherever twice now and I'm a bit disappointed. The Celtic themes are pretty much gone. Not complaining about that, he's hung with them for years now. Maybe it was time for a change. But, not much to grab me on this n...

Yes, michaelgreenaudio, I too would like to know how any system can compensate for elements in a bad recording. I hear this fairly often but it doesn't make sense to me. I don't doubt that there are things that can be done to help some. But especi...
