Ortofon A90 review.... wrong choice of gear What Rob is saying in my book is that the Ortofon A90 is the companies statement product, an all out assault on the SOTA in cartridge design and manufacturing. So he's right that it makes no sense to review it with anything but the best phono stag...
Conrad Johnson TEA2 Stock Tubes Sorry to dash your hopes. They are some older Russian 12ax7s. The good news is that they are better IMHO than the newer reissue Tungsol 12ax7 being currently supplied. The only problem with the Russian tubes that I see is they are microphonic and ...
what do you use to remove your tubes? Worrying about how to remove the tubes seems kind of silly after seeing how they are made and packed :)http://www.mullardtubes.com/Video.aspxThat said either use cotton gloves or some cat grooming gloves with little rubber dots. If nothing else, w...
Kudos to Audio Research I have to say that my experience with cj amps is exactly the opposite of Jwm's. I've owned cj amps for over 20 yrs, beginning with the MV75A1 and currently the LP 150 Ms. The amps have been like battleships and have never once had a bad or old tub...
UHA Reel to Reel/Tape Project opinions Mike:Luv the Basie '61 but I'm partial to the Impulse Basie and the KC7. Talk about realistic sounding instruments. Wow!Myles
UHA Reel to Reel/Tape Project opinions You live in New York :) Play you a Basie big band recording never ever issued from 1961 too. That'll knock your socks off too!Myles
UHA Reel to Reel/Tape Project opinions my experience is that hirez PCM is not even remotely close to a properly dubbed 15ips 1/4" tape copy of a tape. and really not close to a good Lp either (at least in my system to my ears).Mike:I have a 15 ips/2 track copy of KOB and it beats ever...
The Hub: The original McIntosh MC-275 Glad to see you acknowledged my comment.(And I'm sure a few others.)That said, here's a news alert: All writing is subject to fact checking. One can't rewrite history. And yes, I've been in the industry long enough to understand there's a differen...
VPI SDS owners- One can also change the line voltage from the SDS to the motor and that often solves the speed instability issues. You can download the manual from the vpi website and there are instructions there on how to adjust the SDS.
Tube rolling 6922 tubes looking for transparency I've tried quite a few 6922 types in my tape preamplifier (Bottlehead Repro)including the Siemens, Amperexes and Teles. The 6922EH is not a bad tube and Bottlehead and CJ get good sound out of it, to wit the ART and GAT. One tube that you might wa...
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape Sorry to disagree but the Jacqui Naylor is not that bad. The better the system, the better the sound of all the tapes including the Naylor. It's a very nice studio recording with all that this statement brings. A new preamplifier in the system has...
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape I understand what you're saying :) BTW, you should hear the 15 ips of Kind of Blue. It's a knockout! Funny thing happens on the 15 ips tapes too. One finds that some albums are well mastered and faithful to the original recording; others were murd...
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape As one who has heard studio machines and have spent the time and money to set up both reference quality analog playback (VPI Ref. SS/Titan i/Air tight PC-1/CJ TEA 1/GAT) and r2r (highly modded Technics 1500US and Bottlehead Repro with NOS tubes), ... |
