Harry Weisfeld Was Right All Along
To be absolutely correct, it wasn't Harry but Joe Grado (and sure Mitch Cotter was involved somehow) who pointed out the "compromises" involved with setting antiskating on an LP.
new tung sol kt 120
So far, Jadis is the only company (that I've seen) that's announced they'll be incorporating the new KT120 tube into their amplifier.
Contact Cleaner Recommendations??
HFJ:Did you clean the contacts on the AC plug? I find that might be the most significant contact out of all of them in the system. It's like changing the receptacles: much more transparent, far more information and a drop in the noise floor of the...
Vintage Phono Stage? pros and cons
I think the problem one will find with the "vintage" phono stages will depend in part upon which cartridge you're planning to run. If it's a low output MC, then you're going run into noise and inadequate gain problems. In the end, this will lead t...
NOS Tubes In My Aesthetix Calypso
My friend has tried different tube types in his Io and ending up chosing smooth plate Teles. That said, if one is buying on Ebay, etc. the quality of the Tele 12ax7s is paramount. Some 12ax7s were obviously pulls and despite their readings, just s...
Contact Cleaner Recommendations??
NCarv, not sure but it seems to me that Stabilant might be related more to Tweak. If I remember correctly Tweak was polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene. The problem with Tweak was after a couple of month, the contact fluid had turned into an oily...
Contact Cleaner Recommendations??
Slaw, Looked for Flitz a while back and couldn't find it. Where do you get it?
Need help C-J monoblock LP-140M with Siemens CCa
Vinhusc is right. Got the same dirt straight from the top. For some reason, the 140M amplifier is more sensitive to the choice of driver/input tube than is the 275M. In fact, Lew said use of other tubes could damage the 140M. And in fact, they car...
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Well have never experienced anything but improved sound with fluxing with my Lyras. If you're skittish, what about George Cardas' test LP that supposedly can fluxbust the cartridge too?
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Doug-Yes was referring to fluxbusting with the cartridge sitting on a stationary record. You may have seen this already but Jonathan Carr posted this excellent review about fluxbusting on Audioasylum back in 2001 that answered a lot of people's qu...
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Doug: Centering the coils is why Immedia suggests letting the cartridge sit on the LP while using the Audio Physics fluxbuster.
Buy tubes from Audio Research or not
And if ARC is like cj (which I assume they are), they aren't using tube testers to select their tubes. They are testing the tubes performance in circuit, esp. for noise. One would be surprised by the reject rate.
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Listen to Dan. Cartridges, like caps, are taking longer and longer to break in. The ZYX took at least 100 hrs to fully break in.Then worry about setting VTA and other variables.
Anyone try the Fosgate Fozgometer Azimuth meter?
Whirlyvinyl: I am curious as to when or why phase or xtalk wouldn't be the same. On the Feikert site, it shown them to coincide.
