KT-120s in a c-j Premier 11A
cj is as far as I know, now using the KT120s in place of the 6550s. I just recently retubed my ART with 16 of those suckers. I think part of the issue might have been that cj wanted to burn through their existing stock--since if you look at the KT...
2011 RMAF Analog Reports + Meet and Greet
How many LPs can you fit in a suitcase and not get charged extra for baggage? :)I'll be bringing a few 15 ips R2Rs to play for those rooms with decsks :)
Hafler DH 500 update?
Well Elizabeth, I consider my purchase of the DH500 as one of my two worst decisions in my 35 years of audio (the other being the Adcom GFA-1 that couldn't drive anything but a 8 ohm speaker and would overheat and constantly shut down driving my D...
Hafler DH 500 update?
It's hard to say not knowing the rest of the system. That said, stock, the DH500 is not very good. In it's day, and I had one, the little Amber 70 kicked it in the butt. The biggest problem was the Hafler sounded anemic. No dynamics. Sounded like a...
Fluid / Technique for VPI 17
Don't you wish VPI (or someone else?) would make a RCM with two fluid tanks---one for a cleaning fluid and one for a water rinse? Would make things soooo... much easier :) I've suggested it to HW when I reviewed the Typhoon but nothing has happene...
VPI 10.5i - Which armwands do I own?
Get the Soundsmith Counter Intuitive. It's the best $50 you can spend on the VPI and makes setting up VTF and VTA a snap instead of pulling one's hair out.
why is a 13" tonearm design really superior?
Hi Thucan,Hopefully someday will get around to hearing one :)BTW, Bob Graham pointed out a while back that while a longer arm has many virtues, cartridge alignment is more critical in a 12 inch arm than a shorter arm. In simple terms, errors in al...
why is a 13" tonearm design really superior?
One designer(who makes 12 inch arms) told me that they didn't hear any sonic improvements above a length of 12 inches.
Kleos Sibilance
Robert-Just curious. When you said you checked alignment, how did you determine and set azimuth? Excuse me if you've already answered this question.
Kleos Sibilance
Well as they say, YMMV.I haven't found a cartridge that isn't sensitive to VTF,esp. near its optimal value. That is brought out even more by the Soundsmith Counter Intuitive where one can very easily adjust VTF in 1/100th of a gram in no time at all.
Kleos Sibilance
It's going to take 100 hours for the cartridge to break in. Intially with the Lyras, they'll sound thin, detailed but the extremes aren't going to be happening; then you're going to have a period say between 15-25 hours where the cartridge actuall...
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
Hi Mark:What I'm saying is the first record that one uses with a new RCM should be a junk LP. That way, if there's anything wrong with the unit or misaligned (or for instance the first NG machines that used a teflon lip to cover the aperature), yo...
do record cleaning fluids soften the treble?
@RRM: Totally agree with the upper octaves (and there are other effects of cleaning too depending upon the fluid!). Another effect I find with fluids is a decrease in transparency, particularly as one listens deeper into the soundstage. It's not w...
Adjusting SRA using macro lens vs microscope
@Doug,Something like Dave Wilson's Razzmattaz V. 1 is a good record for setting VTA. A better Heliotrope ;)Here's a link to another discussion with a good pic illustrating the utility of the USB Scope.http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showthread.php?1...
'55 Ravel Munch Daphnis et Chloe Shoot-out
Interesting since the Chesky is from a later generation tape than the others.
