Great jazz and Rock unknown GEMS Share yours
wayne shorter w/milton nasciemento "native dancer" - beautiful, very underappreciated (and great 'makeout music'!)art ensemble of chicago - all of their early recordings (people in sorrow, les stances a sophie, tutankhamen, fanfare for the warrior...
Johnny Cash - Get Back Reissues - Anyone heard em?
I read on the 'better records' website that get back has very inferior equipment, which is why all their products suck
I walked into a dealer and got a shock....
sounds like a pretty blatant attempt at just making a sale. I'd second the first post: if they'll let you take it home to audition, at least overnight, you can see if they know what they're talking about - otherwise it's BS.
LP12 / EKOS Tonearm
if you hold the power switch down, the green light eventually comes on - and you're in 45RPM2 dials = anti-skating and tracking force (weight, in grams)
LP Sound Quality
most people here would suggest you buy a wet record-cleaning machine, and I'd do so also, but it does sound like you have a bigger problem than that, possibly with the LP-12 set up. that rig should sound clear as a bell.
Recommendations on the music of Astor Piazzolla
I second the 'zero hour' recommendation. I have it on vinyl and the LP sounds very good. I see it around occasionally...
Used Vinyl: Classical.....Mono or stereo
Bruno Walter on columbia, '6-eye' stereo if you can find themfor the 9th, also try to find Solti on (made in UK) londonpiano concertos - Kempff but you're better off with the CD reissue on DG of his 1953/1955 mono recordings - they sound much bett...
How to evaluate amps that are not broken in?
they'll only improve so yes, if you like them now, you'll like them more later. my very unscientific guesstimate would be that they'll improve by about 10% - not enough to radically change your opinion of them, but possibly enough if you're on the...
HELP
you probably already know this, but in the future try to work with dealers who will let you take things home to try before buying or at least offer a full money-back guarantee for a few days but preferably a week or two.
Wilson Audio Owners.....Sophia's
generally, they are very neutral, so they will show you what you have, in terms of the recording quality and the 'upstream' gear. since they're 'neutral', they are versatile (good with folk or classical or rock or electronic etc.) and don't draw a...
Van Morrison remasters coming soon....
Veedon Fleece has always struck me as one of the most underappreciated records ever - perhaps because it's fairly morose. at any rate, I own an older remaster of it: polydor 31453 7456-2 that's actually quite good. it says 'remastered by Ian Coope...
What's likely to go wrong with a used CD player?
1.laser may need to be calibrated 2.product may be relatively obsolete compared to newer - and cheaper - items- if I were you, I'd do a careful audition to make sure it's an upgrade and not a lateral move; can you do an A/B comparison in which bot...
Is the McIntosh MR67 Modded top notch?
the Mcintosh MR-71 is generally considered their best tube tuner, with the MR-67 next best. with the mods, you should have a great tuner there.
The most important word of advise?
try to arrange (minimum overnight) home auditions - that way you can hear what the component sounds like in real-world conditions (i.e. your room, your other components). audio stores are always set up to make things sound their absolute best (the...
I Have 100K for Speakers?
hey, it's people like this who later sell their mint, not very used equipment for hefty discounts - it's part of the high end 'trickle down' economy.
