Effective AC power conditioners for digital??
Makes no difference to the sound as long as the dynamics are not compressed. Doesn't fix any hum or buzzing ground loop type issues either. That said I use a Transparent Audio PowerLink Ultra which also serves as the surge protector without impedi...
Most Important?
The real source is the recorded music not the player. Is the player more important than the speakers? I don't think so. Is the recording more important? Without a doubt.
PC Based Audio - How?
Yes, it's possible assuming your computer has audio outputs compatible with your Krell processor. Most modern computers have digital output via COAX and/or Toslink (optical). If not you can add a soundcard or external converter. The direct connect...
Best Digital Input from PC to DAC
My setup involves a Vista desktop or XP laptop to firewire Focusrite Saffire LE, Paradisea+ NOS DAC with Bendix tube output stage, the non-USB version, a NuForce processor, Gemstone amp, and Selah Audio 5.1 speaker setup. Using FLAC and either Foo...
Best Digital Input from PC to DAC
Agreed, if money isn't a concern get Steve to hook you up with one of his options and skip all the experimenting. If value is a concern there are lots of cheaper alternatives to keep you busy.
What is your favorite type of tweeter?
Fountek CD3.0 ribbon tweeters are what I have in my speakers. You do need the right design to make these work well as the range is more limited, but the clarity is hard to pass up.
Tube DAC Advice Needed
The Havana is the Paradisea's new big brother so it may compare slightly better to the Monarchy. That said I have the Paradisea+ non-USB using the Bendix Redbank 6385 tube. For lack of a better term, it has a nice analog sound to it. I also find t...
Channel Islands VDA-1 vs VDA-2 vs MSB Link III
I've read quite a few positive comments on the VDA2, but I do have one concern. It uses a CS chip and they tend not to be very well liked. I know there's a lot more to a DAC than one chipset but you gotta wonder about the choice... course it only ...
DAC or. Lynx 2 sound card with Vista OS
While USB is not the ideal form of transmission neither is S/PDIF. Having an internal soundcard (PCI, etc.) is also inherently a bad idea as you will output the noise, of which there is plenty, and interference from inside the computer. An externa...
Sound through Macbook vs DAC
Lol. BTW that Jason guy is a NZ distributor... not much use to us on this side of the world. Anyway couldn't actually find anywhere to buy the EMM online yet, after a very brief Google search, but a post on head-fi put the price at $9000. Could th...
Sound through Macbook vs DAC
Paradisea for $250?? That would be a heck of a deal, new is about $600, with older models used for maybe $350. It is a good NOS DAC, but if you're looking at ones like the Benchmark or Bel Canto DAC3 (two would be cheaper) then the Apogee is a bet...
The best $1500-2500 amp to run with Aerial LR5's
I'm not familiar with the Aerial LR5's, what do they sound like? Take a look at the Gemstone Blue Diamond 200x7 for about $2800. This is a fast neutral amp with not the greatest noise floor. These can affect the system synergies. May make your sys...
Buying used vs. New
I still like to find good used deals for certain items, but the odds of problems with the used audio equipment I've encountered turns me back to new quite often. Of the two used pieces I bought last year one was good, but the other a bit of a dud.
Directional interconnect cables
This thread is priceless, lol. Another round on me... but looks like some here are already wasted. So what do you do when there are no pretty little arrows? Are those cables "directionless"? ;)
Perspective on the DDDAC 1453 mkII
Interesting read. I've been looking at the DDDAC, as well as currently owning a Paradisea+ (non-USB). A couple notes though. The Paradisea is also a NOS DAC. It uses the TDA1545, while Doede uses the TDA1543 in his DAC kits.
