Jolida JD100. How good is it? Going with the Jolida is a very, very good step forward on your audio journey. You will simply be amazed a the improvement in all categories over your Onkyo. Good Move!
The best CD Player for the money You guys! The question asks, "... For the money?" I'm sure the Ayre or the Shigaraki, or the Wadia etc. are great cd players, but for the money? IMO the law of diminishing returns starts early in digital playback.
88 db sensitivity/6 ohm load..tube power question Look for a Jolida 1000. They are integrated and can handle the load just fine. I used one for my Apogee Stage speakers which were a tougher load than that.
CD Players with Analogue Sound Viridian, there were four of us at that particular cd player audition. No one picked the Planet first, although the Pioneer edged it out only a bit. I use to really like the Planet. Compared to what the Sony clones had to offer back in those days,...
CD Players with Analogue Sound Sugarbrie, I know I am sounding argumentatively, but I've heard the Planet on my system, the same day as Pioneer Elite, Music fidelity, and a Jolida 100. I think a record player would have to have a really gunky needle to sound anything like a Reg...
CD Players with Analogue Sound Inna, I like your sarcasm. Sugarbrie, I haven't heard the Cambridge or Rotel, but if neither sound no better than the Planet, low budget is suffering. I wouldn't go any lower in price than a used Jolida, and with that you will be narrowing the mor...
Box speakers that sound like Electrostats? Jaytoy, Apogees have for the most part gone underground, both literally, and figurative. There are still thousands of mint Apogees out there, but they are almost all locked up in people's dedicated listening rooms. There is also a thriving Apogee ...

What's the best approach? The source is a good as any place to start if you just remember you don't have to break the bank to get a great sound. This is my succesful cheap guy formula: If your room is of good size, 1)buy a used Apogee, 2)buy a cheap Jolida 100 CDP, 3)buy a...
Box speakers that sound like Electrostats? Interesting you mention Paul Bolin. The last I heard, Mr. Bolin uses the Apogee Duetta Signature as his reference speaker. His word, that a particular dynamic driver speaker can emulate electrostats, is well worth the listen.
Northern California Hi Mrpoindexter, too cool. The IRS V is a classic killer Infinity. You must have a very large room. I have never heard one, but I read a great review printed in Audio, I think in '92. The review was written by Anthony Cordesman titled, "A search f...
Rega Planet or Cairn Fog I second the Jolida vote.
Where R U????? Anybody in the Sacramento area, we have a good group going.
Rega Planet or Cairn Fog If the Cairn is anything like the Planet, then shame on them. the Planet is way old technology. We compared it to a whole slew of new players and it just sounded dull in comparison to all, even a new Pioneer 47. Some four years back, yeah, it was ... |
