HE expo in SF this past week end...what was hot did anyone compare the Fujitsu plasma with the Sony? Was it just me, or was the Sony in another league?
HE expo in SF this past week end...what was hot Golden Ears, Maybe I should have said, "Not practical in my case." The picture of the LED sets rivaled the plasma sets outside. That is, with black absorbent drapes all around. I use my set for ordinary use as well as pop corn catered movies. For ...
HE expo in SF this past week end...what was hot Sorry to hear of your problems at the Cabasse room, Golden-ears. Given the great room the big Cabasse was in, I am not surprised they could engineer a great sound. Still, I thought the Butler/cabsse put on a stunning show. It was the only room I v...
Ribbon & ceramic, love them? I was there (at SF) too. I'm with you Labtec. It was a first time for me for a lot of big name speakers, and I was very dissapointed. I liked the Totems, and Quads. Best of show, IMHO, was the room/amp/speaker/CDP, in that order, at the Cabasse ro...
Which is the best SET match for Quads 988 ? Futerman's OTL was magic on the old Quads. There is a new OTL builder on the bloch now, Butler Audio. I heard his brand new (no info yet) 100 watt tube, class A, open loop, no global feedback, transformless, 2 farad per block mono blocks on cabess...
The best CD Player for the money Chriskeating, I auditioned a Wadia. I also read a review of the Shigaraki. The two sound like they are similar in their high frequency comb philosophy. I'll pass.
PASS XA 200 or 160? I sounded flippant. Sorry about that. The XAs must be very attractive to Aleph owners. My experience is with the X amps. I am currently using the X600 on brutal speakers. The 600 runs class A to about 200 watts. Because of that, I have a pretty go...
PASS XA 200 or 160? Answer: How much power do you need?
Review: Pass Labs X-250 Amplifier Bigkidz and Nrchy, I remember you both. I've owned the X150, then leaped to the X600. Those two were very different in my system. It just may be the X150 didn't have the reserves necessary for 4 ohm 86db speakers. A 250 would have been a better ma...
Ive got me the Digital Nasties This is your cheapest option. There is no reason why you should have to own a harsh cd player. Simply sell yours here, then buy one that isn't harsh.
Can I get "Great" used speakers for $1800?? Sunnyjim, if you have the room, and the amps, you can't go wrong with Apogee Acoustics speakers. There are a number of models available in your price range, and most of them are mint. You can check out the models and their reviews at this site:htt...
Classe "omega" vs Pass Labs X600 I have not heard the Classe Omega. I would bet it is a fine amp for most purposes. I wouldn't hazard it on my system though. That is what I am using the Pass Labs 600 for. Because the Omega is discontinued, comparison between the two isn't possibl...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE While older designs may not be able to beat the best of today's speakers, who can afford them? Having said that, I'd put my eighteen year old Apogee Scintillas up against all comers, new or old. I should add, Ken Kessler, the reviewer, does just t...
High End Myth Glossary. Marakenetz, though I am not an electrical engineer, nor vendor, I have found, through practice, your premises to be sound. My love for old inefficient speaker choices have forced me to concentrate my money on basic amplification. Money considerati...
Pass Aleph series with Apogee?? I'm with the first response; forget the Aleph for the ribbon and a bruiser for the bottom. Go with the Pass Labs X amp. the 350 will do the whole. I've owned three models of Apogees. I have never heard better synergy, than with Pass X amps. |
