Eton 8.1's or Apogee Slant 6
Apogees are not known to do well with subs. It is a mismatch between the fast ribbon and the slower box. Having owned Apogees before, you probably know that. The Slant 6 is Apogees smallest floor speaker. I have heard it in much smaller enclosures...
best preamp for 501's
Try the H2O Fire preamp. It retains all the warmth of the performance without adding any. It will allow your amps to strut their stuff like no other. Most important the Fire was created with ICE amps in mind. They are a perfect match.
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
You did not read what I wrote. I said I changed that colored DAC to a DAC with equal access to all frequencies. That is what I want.
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Kijanki, let me give you an example. I have a DAC that is tuned to warmth. This is accomplished by the use of signal constricting diodes for the most part. Replacing that diode with a wide open gate diode. I get to hear those twinkly highs, and hi...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Complete neutrality, that is the live performance, cannot be fully attained by the engineers or the playback system. My goal is to bring out the best of what I have on the CD. That is my striving for neutrality. Color is a fine for others. I know ...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Neutral is the letting the music on the disc to be fully realized. Better is the listener's subjective notion of how he likes the music colored. You see this all the time, like when someone starts a thread asking for the, "Smoothest CD player." A ...
stereo amp vs monoblocks, any advantages?
Minorl hits all the important points. On my system, following his monos/short SCs/separate dedicated outlets formula pays big dividends to my system.
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
kijanki, The point I am making is, if you know what a grand sounds like and if you know your system can convincingly reproduce the sound of a grand piano you would know it. You don't have to know if the recording you are listening to sounds just t...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Mr. Tennis, You aren't telling us your short memory prevents you from recognizing a live piano sound from one occasion to another. What would keep you from recognizing a music system that comes darn close, and know how far it varies?
stereo amp vs monoblocks, any advantages?
I love monos, because I can keep my SCs real short.
Any one else like the class D ICE power amps?
I should add, the H2O fire preamp is specifically designed to work with ICE amps as well as all other amps. The Fire's low impedance matches ICE amp's low impedance. It was used in the review I posted above.
Any one else like the class D ICE power amps?
Check out this review of the H2O 100. This will power any mortal speaker. The review compares the H2O to a conventional amp. http://www.iceh2oaudio.com/images/H20-Monarchy.pdfHere is a summary excerpt lifted from the reviewer:"H2O Signature 100: S...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Bryioncunningham Paying for new equipment may be hard. Where I call such a change an easy decision is when the change moves the sound forward along those qualifiers you so adroitly wrote down here. Sometimes, the push forward comes in surprisingly...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
As long as your are pointing a finger at transgressors to good sound, I have my own findings, and the difficulty in changing them was relatively easy.On my system, I have found the following:Concealment:- Solid state amplifiers - easyCorruption -c...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Trying to recapture live concert that I assumed was amplified through whatever equipment and speakers.... just how is anyone going to replicate that? My son plays guitar, my wife piano, and daughter viola. Live music, and voices are the source for...
