looking for interconnect under 200 dollars
such a question will elicit many recommendations.the answer is to audition as many as you can. if you can't borrow them, buy those which have good resale value, i.e., the relationship between retail price and resale price.as well-intentioned as th...
Audience speaker cable questions
i have compared the au24 to the au 24e cables, i.e., interconnects, power cords and speaker cables. the "e" version has greater focus and is more unforgiving of problem recordings.
How can you not have multichannel system
the number of channels is less important than what is fed into them. multi channel does not solve the problem of mediocre components and problem recordings.placing such emphasis upon multi channel is misplaced. the concern should be on recordings,...
Acquiring an awesome system, but how?
hi bvdiman:it seems that you are using some kind of equalization, or way of voicing your stereo system when listening to problem recordings.suppose you could not access a "linearizer", would you then try to set up as color-free stereo system as po...
Warmish SS pre:Rowland Synergy IIi preamp/others?
the word "warm" and solid state in the same sentence is a contradiction. warmth is a coloration. i have yet to hear a warm-sounding solid state compoent.i define warm as a slight attenuation in the upper mid/lower treble region in conjunction with...

a recording is an inexact reproduction of reality. recording quality varies. why strive for a significant discrepancy from reality ? in fact there is no way to know what is embbeded on a recording. the content is unknown. therefore, how can you st...
Stunning Harpsichord Recording
if one is referring to pierre hantai's recordings, the earlier recording would represent the performer at a different level of creativity. as for sound, without comparing the two recordings, there is nothing to say.i think you are on your own, unl...
rolling output tubes
the problem isn't the tubes it's the amplifier. melody products are very unromantic. they are typical of the modern tube design, not the classic or vintage tube design. i doubt you will be able to extract much warmth from that amp.

Mcintosh MC225 vs Cary / VTL / C .Johnson etc
why compare a vintage amp with an in production ? rather, compare it to another vintage amp ?.
Mapletree Preamp experiences?
hi mariusz:i have tried rca, sylvania, tunsol, ge, brimar, mullard and probably one or two other 6sn7s. without the treble attenuation, i don't want to listen to the preamp. i have varied power cords and interconnect cables as well.it is not a vin...
How can you not have multichannel system
realistic timbre has yet to be attained in any stereo system. isn't truth in timbre the essence of music ? isn't the sound of an instrument more important than where it comes from ?evn if if i have frequency perception loss above 12khz, i can stil...
Stunning Harpsichord Recording
i find that the cd labels i have mentioned preserve the timbre of the harpsichord. accent, naive, astree, some of the sophie yates recordings on chandos and most of the recordings on the glossa label are worthy of audition.you can find these recor...
Acquiring an awesome system, but how?
i have in my system, cables from three diffrenet manufacturers. i have reviewed many cable products. interconnects and speaker cables from the same designer are not always consistent in their sonic signature. one cannot generalize.it is best to be...
How can you not have multichannel system
multichannel concerns spatiality. what does that have to do with music which is pitch, timbre and harmonics.mono is sufficient to reproduce timbre accurately. why is one so concerned about spatial cues. has the problem of accuracy of timbre been s...
